In my shrewdness, I knew beforehand that someone would quote that statement. But you didn’t meet the requirements of my offer.
Listen closely, I said, show me the phrase "separation of church and state" in the U.S. Constitution and I will send you money.
Did you do that? No, you didn’t. I was very specific because that statement does not exist. The quote that you produced does not mean or say separation of church and state. It says nothing of the sort. It just basically states that Congress will make no law respecting an establishment of religion (in other words, we are free to believe what we want without Congress enacting a uniform law about what it’s citizens are required to believe with regard to religion), or prohibiting the free exercise thereof (meaning Congress will not make any law that prevents the citizens of this nation from freely exercising their inherent right to believe what they want to believe with respect to religion.
