My point exactly. If Jesus was so insignificant as you seem to imply then why do we bow our knees to Him, dividing and reckoning history through Jesus Christ? We consider and separate an entire epoch (i.e. era) of human history by this Man Who died on a cross that you seem to discount as just another Person Who was crucified. In your mind He couldn't be that important. So why, then do we use terms that even give Him notice? We say B.C. (i.e. before Christ) and A.D. (i.e. anno domini, Latin for in the year of our Lord). We don't have to use these terms. There were way more prominent, renowned, and great men and women throughout history (based on ungodly, human standards) who's abbreviations we could have used. But instead we use the abbreviation of a Man Named Jesus Christ. Who many people hate, disbelieve, dishonor, spurn, ridicule, hold in derision, disdain, and hold in contempt. Why not say, "B.C. (i.e. before Caesar)?" How about B.C. (i.e. Before Confucius)? Oh, wait I got a great one. How about B.C. (i.e. before Constantine)?" No? How about Before Buddha (B.B.)? No wait a minute, I know: How does B.M. (i.e. before Mohammed). Is Jesus the only Man Who can divide history?
You seem to forget about Mohammed. A billion people consider him to be the prophet of God, and they are more dedicated then you are. Jesus was an important man, even a great man, but he was just a man. Jesus was not divine.
Ummm. History was divided by people other then Jesus before his birth. And then for some time after his death.
And it was only in the west - it didn't divide history in the East and Orient. And today while B.C and A.D. might be used not everyone knows the meaning, or cares. And there are increasing numbers of scholars using C.E. and B.C.E. in its place.
.I think you need to understand that just because Jesus was used as such for a time doesn't somehow imply his rightness or whatever. History is written by the victors, Christianity was lucky, yes lucky, to survive in the West, and in the vacuum it was able to do such things. In places where the Church didn't have political control such terminology didn't stick.
It is simply terminology, not some divine power of Jesus to stick to the Julian/Gregorian calender. Clearly followers thought it appropriate, and as a major faction where able to affect such a thing.
The fact Buddhists of Muslims haven't felt the need to have such a thing doesn't reflect on the validity of them as religions. And remember - Mayans/Aztects, Hinuds and the Chinese have also at used religion as a dating technique - concepts of cycles.
And the Egyptians - each day and season was a religious occasion, and dated by Thor and Re and the rest.

Julian calendar... fear Ye gods! Some of the calendar months are based Roman deities. Avoid January, March, May and June for dear life or burn in hell for being a heathen.
Just some more examples of the many Pagan things Christians decided to... appropriate.
And look how they have lasted! JIA asks how great Jesus must have been because people decided to tack him onto a dating system - what about the months that can be traced back to such Rman figures?

Julian calendar... fear Ye gods! Some of the calendar months are based Roman deities. Avoid January, March, May and June for dear life or burn in hell for being a heathen.
Days of the week:
The First Day: Sunday was named after the Sun god.
The second Day: Monday was named after the moon goddess.
The Third Day: Tuesday was named after the god Tyr.
The Fourth Day: Wednesday was named after the god Odin.
The Fifth Day: Thursday was named after the god Thor.
The Sixth Day: Friday was named after the goddess Frigga.
The Seventh Day: Saturday was named after the god Saturn.
Months:
JANUARY:
Named for Janus, the Roman mighty one of portals and patron of beginnings and endings, to whom this month was sacred. He is shown as having two faces, one in front, the other at the back of his head, supposedly to symbolize his powers.
FEBRUARY:
This name is derived from Februa, a Roman festival of purification. It was originally the month of expiation.
MARCH:
It is named for Mars, the Roman mighty one of war.
APRIL:
This name comes from the Latin APRILIS, indicating a time of Fertility. It was believed that this month is the month when the earth was supposed to open up for the plants to grow.
MAY:
This month was named for Maia, the Roman female deity of growth or increase.
JUNE:
This name is sometimes attributed to June, the female mighty one of the marriage, the wife of Jupiter in Roman mythology. She was also called the "Queen of heaven" and " Queen of mighty ones." The name of this month is also attributed to Junius Brutus, but originally it most probably referred to the month in which crops grow to ripeness.
JULY:
Named for the Roman emperor Julius Caesar, this is the seventh month of the Gregorian year.
AUGUST:
Named for Octavius Augustus Caesar, emperor of Rome; the name was originally from augure, which means, "to increase."
SEPTEMBER:
This name is derived from the Latin septem, meaning "seven."
OCTOBER
This name comes from the Latin root octo, meaning "eight."
NOVEMBER:
This name is derived from Latin novem, meaning "ninth."
DECEMBER:
This name is derived from the Latin decem, meaning "ten."
The Bible says we should not use pagan deity names!
Exodus 23:13: and in all things that I have said to you take heed: and make no mention of other elohim, neither let it be heard out of your mouth.
Psalms 16:4: their sorrows shall be multiplied that give gifts to idols: Their drink-offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take their names upon my lips.

Especially since everyhting about the calendar is based on astrology and alchemy, both considered "witchcraft" by JIA types.
The Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in His wings. The Sun burns bright and hot. The same sun that burns the wicked up like stubble is the same Sun that brings healing to those who are in Christ.
Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
