Am I the only one who thinks it doesn't matter? People today have such varied backgrounds that ethnicity can be as insightful as the socks they're wearing at the time as far as what their personality is actually like. You can fit nearly any ethnicity with any background and personality, it kind of loses its meaning.

Look its really quite simple.

According to their own figures the Marvel universe contains more than 5,000 characters, yet even a generous count reveals only 100 or so of these are black – less than two percent of their fictional population. This pales in comparison to the nearly 14 percent that the U.S. Census says makes up American society at present (the number is more like 12 if you expand the numbers to include all of North America).
Im black im part of society. The number of black characters in comics doesnt not represent the population of the blacks reading comics, therefore I feel left out. Its not a hard concept to understand if it doesnt bother you then thats fine, but its completely logical to feel miffed about it.

I guess I don't have the same attachment to my ethnicity as others do. I just think they should get some interesting character personalities built before they start shelling out ethnic characters to meet the quotas or the gesture means nothing. The characters will just sink to obscurity like the 4900 or so white characters and the 96 black characters.
perhaps you don't notice race because 98% of comicbook characters are white?
for example, if an asian guy is in a neighborhood with 98% asians, he's not going to notice race as an issue.
however, put him in a neighborhood with 98% hispanics, and race becomes a much bigger issue because he is now a minority.
So, imagine reading a comic book where the vast majority of characters and bystanders are black, you'd prob have some thoughts regarding the racial mix of the characters and wonder why so few white characters....I think it would be silly to say that race doesn't cross your mind at all if you read a comic book where 98% of heroes are black.

I've already been in a similar situation, single hispanic kid in a class of black kids, then when I moved here it was mostly white kids. It reminds me of the comedian who praised dog for being so upbeat. Even when losing a leg they'd just be like "Uhh... I guess have I have three now! Let's play!" In the comics, things just equate to "These are these people. Let's move on to the story!"

Er im not sure if thats the case. The article implied that 12 percent of readers were black....therefore there should be 14 percent black characters, thats not the case there are less than 2 percent.

I'm also sure, that by 2 percent being black, doesn't mean the other 98% are white. Many of the characters Marvel has are also demons and aliens and shit.
Is that supposed to be a serious point?

I honestly don't know if I like or dislike this combination of art and bureaucracy.
Well I dunno if you dont like it then fine. To be fair though if people are going to create more black characters they still should be good and not just done for the sake of it.....but really my main point is that...why on earth would you locate a country off the east coast of africa and make most of the characters from that location white....it seems a little strange when they're are already very few black characters in comparison.
Correct me if im wrong most Genoshans arent black are they?
