Because then their soldiers won't be recalled if the war doesn't end. Same with Australia, unless I wasn't paying attention to the news for the past few weeks. Anyway, I don't think it's a Presidential election. Those happen every four years. The last one was in 2004. I don't think that the difference between 2006 and 2004 is 4. But then, my maths not so good since I drinked the paint.

Yeah, glad I'm an overseas American ✅ I still enjoy my visits back home, though. 🙂
Oh, it tasted like herb *spasms*
It's gonna be interesting in this thread on Wed. of next week.
Dems loose and Republicans stay?
The polls are only representative of a small amount of voters?
100 million evangelical Christian votes not even being considered in most cases?
Values voters not buying the message that they should stay home to "punish" congress?
I'm sure you'd be saying: "Inconceivable!"
But then, you'd be in for just as much of a surprise as the little angry bald man in Princess Bride.

It's about that time: 2 two weeks left until Election Day. I just sent in my absentee ballot from college two days ago.The one thing that's for sure is that the Democratic Party isn't losing any seats this year. The question is how many will they gain. I'm almost certain that Democrats are taking the House of Representatives, and the Senate can't be ruled out. Democrats might even gain a majority in State governorships Various political centers have issued predicictions. My current favorite 'crystal ball' is this one:
Mr. Sabato is a Professor of Politics at the University of Virginia.
The 'Brutal Bottom Line,' as he puts it, is as follows.
Senate
Democrats +3 to +6 seats
Republican seats up for election: 15 (out of 55 held)
Democratic seats: 18 (out of 45)
Bottom Line:House of Representatives
Republican seats 'in play:' 63 (169 uncompetitive races)
Democratic seats: 12 (191 uncompetitive races)
Bottom Line: Democrats +18 to +22 seatsGovernorships
Republican seats up for election: 22 (out of 28 held)
Democratic seats: 14 (out of 22)
Bottom Line: Democrats +4 to +6 governorshipsAfter 6 years of incompetence it looks like there might actually be some Congressional oversight in these last two years

Ah, well.
You may just find that the Dems take a few house seats, and a few senate seats to gain a (small) majority, but you may not.
We shall wait and see.
I do know that the media, through polls and pundits, would have you believe that the Democrats have this thing in the bag already, and I seriously doubt that is true.
When watching or reading such "statistics" its for a sole purpose:
To sway middle-ground voters into voting Democrat. Dems and Rep. voters are already decided (mostly) on who they'll pick, and I think the hope is that folks unsure of what to do will see these "numbers" and figure that they should just vote Democrat with every body else.
I said it in the beginning of the thread:
Conservative people are still conservative, and they aren't going to stay home so that people like Nancy Pelosi can gain greater power, nor will they let a page scandal change their personal politics.
And its the conservatives who won the last 3 elections in 2000, 2002, and 2004.
It'll be interesting around here next week, that's for sure.
Originally posted by sithsaber408I realize that this could all turn around within days, but with every passing Republican gaffe, I gain more confidence. I also realize that too much confidence could lead to a long fall, but damn it's so tempting!

And everyone knows that this election (and all elections in the US) is about swaying the independent vote, but you forget there are a sizeable number of moderate Republicans that are dissatisfied with Congress, the President, and the whole neoconservative movement.
And most of the Republicans won't be voting to keep Pelosi out of power, they vote Republican because they always vote Republican. Parts of the conservative base might be swayed by Pelosi, but the majority don't care, they just vote party line like always.
I'll be watching the coming days with great interest and anticipation
