Honarable mention to Redman, too. "Dare iz a Darkside" was my favorite album. I melted that CD from playing it so much.

Me too! You have to be the only other person I've met who prefers Darkside to Red's first one. I can't get enough of Darkside, THE funkiest hip-hop album ever made. I remember, from the first time that bassline from Bobyahedtothis blew my speakers out, that I'd found something special. So many classic lines too, I can't even begin to list my favorite quotes from that album.

Ugh, I should have put him in my top 10. He's at least #11 or 12. There are lots of MCs who are good enough to admire or even to be in awe of, but for me, Red's one of those ver few who is just genuinely likable. He's a lazy, pothead slacker with a John McLane style gift for one-liners, I could see myself hanging out with him even. Also, can I just mention, has there ever been a hip-hop track in which the collaborating artist (in this case, Hurricane G) been so utterly, embarrassingly and effortlessly outshone as on 'We Run New York'?. She needs to be removed from an otherwise dope song, seriously.

Redman is awesome because he's clearly doing it because he loves doing it, and unlike people who TRY to relate to their fans, fans automatically relate to him cos he enjoys passtimes that we tend to, or at least me.

That's one reason I love Blackout! so much, because they talk about marvel comics, video games and all manner of hilarious situations. Like when Redman says something about driving a bike, doing a front wheelie and hitting speed bumps at 40 Mph. Why would you even say that, but why is it so funny?

He's such a child, I think that's why he's so funny. It seems like everytime him and Meth made a pun or line about sex, they'd giggle like school children.

Yeah exactly, they're just likable, average guys in a genre packed with egos. They have a certain innocence that's really refreshing, similar to the Pharcyde's early stuff. As you said, just in it for the fun of it.

Maybe it's because of Wu-Tang, but I've never liked Meth as an individual as much as I have Red, I'm so used to hearing him as one part of a big personality, and to me he's not as flawlessly gifted as GZA, so I can't always separate him from the collective he belongs to. GZA transcends Wu, Meth isn't quite at that level for me. He's a technically perfect MC with a lot of charisma, he just doesn't have the jaw-drop factor of GZA or the unfiltered charm of Red. It's all personal preference obviously, I mean I've heard you mention Meth as your 'perfect MC' before AC, for example, but yeah.

hows dare iz a darkside compared to muddy waters? big red fan but never listened to thst cd yet thought it was suppose to be the weaker of the first 3

Red is pretty cool. Never really went out of my way to listen to him.
One person that cracks me up is Ludacris. He is totally doing his own thing. I don't remember if I put him in my list but he would defently be up there.

Another thing when you ask people this question alot of them say Jay-Z and honestly I think he is boring as hell... 😐

I want to redo my list. Just a couple of things:

Biggie and Tupac are at No. 1 leaving the 10th slot open Redman at No. 10 with Jay Z as the honorable mention. So this is how it'd look:

1. Biggie - 2Pac

2. Eminem

3. Kool G. Rap

4. Gza

5. Canibus

6. Nas

7. Ice Cube

8. Jada Kiss

9. Snoop

10. Redman

(Honorable mention Jay Z)

Yea. My real list. Damn. Notice that they're all from the 90's. That's cause I don't really listen to any of the new stuff out at all. And that's cause contemporary rap can't compare to the 90's era rap a.k.a. the best rap era, imho.

I wil admit that uncle LL has gone out of his way to show off his abs.

That's why he sucks now, ey. Mr. Smith was his last good album. "Doin' It", "Loungin'", and "Hey Lover" were classics. But after 1995, LL (and rap in general) went to hell.

When it comes to underground hip-hop it's usually the other way around, though. Amazing lyrics but average beats.

Most undergound beats are terrible. They usually sound like they were made on a 50 dollar Casio keyboard with a repititive beat of the same 3 or 4 notes.

Even if a set of lyrics are ill, it's hard for me to appreciate a song if the beat sounds like it came from an NES game.

I hear "Real big" by Mannie Fresh and I cant help but notice how HORRID his lyrics are. But the song is so catchy.

I think Southern hiphop sucks period. Mannie Fresh is a typical Southern rapper; he values saying any two words that rhyme (even if the rhyme doesn't make sense) over telling a story or making any kind of sense.

Most Dirty South songs seem like they were made to intentionally be able freak to in a club, with out really knowing what the song is about.

Tupac was one of the best.

If not, the.

he's horrible.

Why though? He isn't too different most other West Coast rappers; his lyrics, beat and so on. But I find his raspy voice to be really annoying, which is why I don't listen to him.

---------

My Top Ten List:

Tupac
Dre
Eazy
Ice Cube
Snoop
Coolio
Mack 10
The D.O.C.
Krayzie Bone (Bone Thugz)
B-Real (Cypress Hill)

i would never compare to Game to any real west coast mc. game drops waaaay too many names and most of his lyrics are boring.

i think The Game's cool. He's not a horrible lyricist. Like he's not Vanilla Ice bad. I like his blatent "don't give fcuk" persona/character.

I don't regularly listen to him but i never thought his flow was wack when i did listen to him. He's better than anyone on G-unit. Including L. Banks. And i think Loyd's nice.

Being better than G-Unit is a bit like being the most pure piece of shit in a pile. You attract less flies, so what?

Loyd Banks a (g-unit member) had some flow. Other members like mobb deep & m.o.p. (if they're still with 'em) are ill. Bad decision makers but still nice with the flow. I don't listen to g-unit at all but don't make 'em out to be shit cause they don't appeal to your audience. Their markets are targeted at people who like them. Who relate. Even if it's as simple as what they put out. They specialize and they're good at it. The proof's in the huge success they've achieved.

I feel indifferent about g-unit but as far as you thinking they suck that's your opinion but someone or a group you might think is ill may suck hard to the next man so to each his own i guess.
