Final scene:

Elizabeth and Will Jr are walking through waving grass to the edge of a cliff. It is almost sunset. Both look hopeful and excited. They pause at the edge of the cliff, and Elizabeth pulls Will Jr in closer. They wait for a moment.

Nothing happens.

Still looking hopeful and excited, they re-adjust their positions and keep watching. It is getting dark. The sun has nearly set. Nothing happens.

Elizabeth checks her watch nervously. The sun goes down. Will Jr looks at her questioningly.

Elizabeth pulls out her date book and thumbs to the appropriate week. A look of horror crosses her face.

Elizabeth: Oh my gosh! It was YESTERDAY!!!!! WE MISSED IT!!!

Will Jr: WHAT?!

crybaby

Did you know I never touch ppl? It takes a lot to impress me to get into anything at all ever.

Kate, you are wicked!

(Bootstrap and Elizabeth's scene)

Bootstrap: He won't pick me. I wouldn't pick me. (Light bulb appears over his head) Unless....

(Like Davy Jones, Bootstrap manages to will himself to where he needs to go. He winds up at Will's blacksmith shop)

Bootstrap: (singing to the donkeys)
Come my little friends
As we all sing a happy little working song
Merry little voices clear and strong
Come and roll your sleeves up
So that we can pitch in
Cleaning crud up in the kitchen
As we sing along

And you’ll trill a cheery tune in the tub
As we scrub a stubborn mildew stain
Lug a hairball from the shower drain
To the gay refrain
Of a happy working song

(Bootstrap appears back on the Dutchman looking proud of himself)

Elizabeth: Where did you go?

Bootstrap: Oh nowhere special...just tidied up my son's business establishment. Now he'll pick me.

Elizabeth: Bootstrap, we're fugitives. We couldn't go back to Port Royal if we wanted to.

Bootstrap: F*ck!

HAHA! I love that song from enchanted. LOOOOOL!!

New vid to share 🙂

Ah, so many missed opportunities between the two of them. Do you think it was more fate or the two of them being afraid just enough to make sure the two of them didn't happen?

fate, or the writers?

I think, now, the films seem to imply to me that Jack and Elizabeth are inevitably going to find their way back to one another. That's all I can seem to make from their strange and overwhelmingly great relationship during the course of the films. Everything they say to one another, everything that they do because of one another, seems to imply to me that no matter what choices they make here and now (and for the sake of a conservative american audience, haha) they are always going to run into each other unexpectedly, and most likely that will entail some love. 😉

Elizabeth is almost there by film 3. It's no coincidence in my mind that J/E goodbye scene, which basically spells out their ridiculously obvious crush for everyone they know to see, and in which Elizabeth can only think about kissing Jack again, occurs right before Elizabeth simultaneously gets some and says goodbye to Will. It's goodbye for those two. It really is. He leaves her alone on a beach, they part. the end.

and then, at the end, we see Jack without the pearl (only a ship) but still with that trusty compass. How long will it take him to realize he's still vexed? How long will it be before they run into each other again, this time, completely safe from Will's interference?

only a matter of time. hehehe.

Oh, Kate, it's as if we're so close to it and yet so out of reach. I can SEE it so well. You're right. I don't think Jack is done with her, even if he thinks he is. He's still a pirate lord and she's still the pirate king. They still go way back and he may very well be on his way to her at the end of the movie to recruit her to help him get the Pearl back.

Do T&T even answer questions on that one website anymore, or is that a thing of the past? It seems so strange that the last we heard of them they were doing that seminar at PirateDiva's school. PirateDiva, were they willing to talk about AWE at all? It just seems like before AWE came out, they were willing to talk and discuss anything so long as it didn't give away any twists in their upcoming pirate adventure. Now that AWE is over, we don't even have a commentary on the dvd. We don't have a "making of" or "production notes" that describe their thought process at all. It's almost as if the whole movie has been swept under the rug. Are they unsatisfied with it? I can't imagine professionals like them would be that affected by bad reviews. The movie still made a ton of money, so that can't be the problem. The bottom line is that they must not be as proud of it as of their other works and it makes me think the whole thing was rushed.

i totally agree. so totally. why do you think there was no commentary on either film 2 or 3, for such an epic film that made so much money and was so popular?

unless they are planning to release expensive special addition versions with all the goodies... which I've never heard any reference to.

i do think T and T got confused by the time AWE was being made and released. I honestly think they didn't know what a phenomenon they were getting themselves into with sparrabeth. i think they trusted too much in the way they wrote the films, as opposed to the way the actors played them. and I think one of them, i forget which, was a total sparrabether and influenced it enough as to cause a total duality in the tone of the films. someone high up in the production, and probably several people, liked sparrabeth a little too much and it ended up killing the effect the W/E immortal curse drama might have otherwise had for audiences, if they had been more emotionally invested in the romance. i think that, the makers

1. over-estimated orlando's sex-appeal and charm

2. over-estimated the chemistry they could create bw Orlando and keira

3. massively, massively under-estimated the success of Jack Sparrow's character

4. massively, massively under-estimated Johnny Depp's sudden rise to sexiest man alive

5. didn't know their viewing audience had a vocal majority of people feeling the grind of societies expectations and desperately wanting something more, an adventure, a piraty-romance

6. assumed big battles and witty dialogue could convince us a marriage could work.

amongst other things. i know we've been through this before. i think T and T ought to be proud of the films, but we've all arrived at the conclusion AWE was rushed and lost a lot of its magic because of it. The writing came under the harshest criticism because so many major plot details apparently had to be cut. i am sure they regret this and wake up at night screaming, "that's what we could have done in that scene to explain it!!!" or "what in the HELL did we do to Tia Dalma?!"

haha.

Just to correct you, there is a commentary with DMC. T&T actually give a very entertaining and enlightening commentary to it. AWE is the only one without a commentary.

It was news to me when they said in it "I'm surprised more people don't realize what a good team Will and Elizabeth make." They were talking about how even though the audience doesn't know what Will's plan for the kraken is, Elizabeth does without needing an explanation for him because she's apparently thinking the same thing. Huh? It's easy to miss that when you work so hard to keep them apart during the whole movie. Had the entire series been a little more W/E centered, maybe I could have swallowed it.

They massively overestimated their audience when it came time for AWE, not bothering to explain even the most basic things. Sao is cool and I think he had a lot going for him as a character, but when you dissect him, all he is is a catalyst to get the charts and to make Liz a captain. That's it. Yet they wasted all that time and planning into the first half hour of the movie before the main plot has even started.

well i'll be darned. i didn't know there was a dmc commentary. shut up! haha. and i call myself a fan.

yeah, sao... oh gee... awe got a bit episodic for a while there, almost like they were wishing they had 7 movies instead of 3, and had time to invent cool villains and give them plenty of screentime. and then they realized, oh shoot, we've got 1 hour to tie everything up...

and this is always the moment where I go back to the "adventures of the writers" and start imagining how it went while they wrote it...

Oh that. Was that its on thread or is it further back on this thread?

I asked this a while ago, but I don't remember what people said and I think it ties into sparrabeth. In DMC, how did Jack know Will and Elizabeth were about to be married? Did Will ever say anything? Was their wedding announced so far and wide that even pirate ships sailing through hurricanes would get word of it? Did Jack, in some limited way, keep in touch? Would they have had the balls to try to send him an invitation?

It just makes me wonder if Jack tried to keep tabs on them...well, her. How tempting it must have been to just sail back and steal her away. But then that logical part that didn't want to want her probably told him she wouldn't be interested.

Watch the movie with the commentary, Kate. T&T really seem to enjoy talking about DMC and they're really funny and mention a lot of fun facts. One of my favorite parts is one of them is talking about something in the Tortuga scene and the other shouts, "Sh! It's Jack Davenport!"

Hmmm--- that Jack Davenport line is sounding suspiciously familiar. Have I seen it? Oh my gosh I'm getting old. I can't remember.

Someone needs to write the fic of "what happened between COTBP and DMC" with regards to Sparrabeth, how Jack DID come and try to steal her away, why she decided to stay and get married, and how Jack knew about everything. Ahem, Willo? It could be short and sweet and full of sparrabeth goodness.... 🙂

Lol, I don't know I'm the woman for the job there. I tend to think of the time between COTBP and DMC the same way I think about the time between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back...uneventful and forgetful. But it would be fun to fill in those gaps. But I find after DMC so much more fun. Jack and Liz know each other better then...I'll tell you what. There will be some long stretches in my day tomorrow. I will pen out something, but be warned: at the most it will only be about 3 chapters.

But I'm interested in what everyone thinks: how did Jack know they were even engaged let alone "due to be married" as he tells Davy Jones?

it's a good question. obviously the most probably answer is, he didn't, but they needed him to for the plot.

other explanations:

1. he and elizabeth are pen-pals

2. the black pearl gets wireless

3. will and elizabeth went to tortuga for a mini-break and left word

SKYPE!!!

LOL! remember that there is a lot of time between Will and Jack on the pearl that we don't see...that might explain it.

I watched DMC for the first time after watching AWE...it was a long gap but I'm the best audience...I laughed at every single joke, mouthed the words along with Jack and Lizzie, sniffled when Jack faced his doom and rolled my eyes at the father/son plot.
I watched it with the commentary...

At this point I consider myself the T&T expert...I'm on their website quite often and I can actually tell their voices apart without effort. Yes I'm a huge fangirl...Terry is my favorite. Even on wordplayer he's always the one participating the most...I can't really say he's sparrabeth. He really knows what the audience wants.

His line is one of my favorites."...we knew these characters had a chemistrey and this was the only way to have a kiss between them that would be true to all the characters."
I believe given more time I have enough confidence in Terry alone to say that AWE would've been awesome. Has anyone ever read his columns? He's an absolute wizard.

I'll stop being afangirl...back to sparrabeth. The more I watched DMC the more I realized how GOOD we actually are. We figured out the Davy/Tia thing on our own (duh), we got the sinking dress symbolism, we got the 'slaking her lust and burrying her temptation' bit, we got the whole little 'curiosity' dance bit...each setting it up so the other can't win...

We were right...we predicted a few things wrong but we were right.

Hey you wonderful piratista, where is this site you speak of? You've added to our body of knowledge famously!! Thanks a bunch for the info--it's all Sparrabeth info donchaknow? Very interesting!! 😄

Learn something new everyday if you try. I'll keep pushing til my body rots. As Neil Young said, "It's better to burn out than to fade away". Youse plenty smart piratista, I've always said that about us'ns.

What the people who look at us like we're crazy can't seem to get is that in DMC, the whole "vexation" thing going on, the craziness of the compass, that at least part of the kiss was showing something was felt...all that was right. There is something going on between them. All we got wrong was that they didn't get together.

You know, I think the Will/Bootstrap story could have been very touching and heartfelt. We could have gotten into it. But Bootstrap...I don't know. I have a hard time imagining him as a pirate, the same guy that stood up for Jack all on his own and got punished for it. I have a hard time really connecting him to Will and don't get me wrong, I think Orlando did just fine playing Will, but I think more of a reaction was needed. Will should be traumatized here. He thinks his fiancee is going to be hanged in prison if he doesn't bring Beckett that compass, Jack just screwed him over, he's on a ship filled with monsters that enslave or kill the people they find, and on top of all this, he's just met his dad for the first time...the dad who abandoned him. But T&T write Will staying strong and focusing almost exclusively on the key. It's as if his dad doesn't even enter his thoughts until the end when he promises he'll come back and free him.

When you add that into AWE, we don't see the conflict of his choice. Why the hell not pick Elizabeth? Again, T&T write the best "love" story when the two characters in question are not in the same scene together. We are supposed to just assume Will and Elizabeth rock each other's world and nothing will ever change that, and we are supposed to assume Will now loves his father and has forgiven him and this is a hard choice to make. Now, maybe Will just has a greater heart than most of us, but we needed to SEE the pain of that choice. I think we would have accepted the whole Will/Bootstrap subplot that way. Hell, we might have even accepted Will/Elizabeth that way, but the movies go to great lengths to keep these two separated.

I agree completely. The reason we love JE is because deep down we're all movie/romance junkies. J and E have all the great lines and moments, interesting banter and plots and inside jokes. It's just an amazing formula...just enough of everything...even hate.

Now I get really frustrated with JE shippers sometimes (not u guys...I love you guys) like on wordplayer this girl insisted that WE didn't do anything on that beach and that the baby was Jack's 😄 I shit u not! They give us a bad name...we've watched the movies...seen things other people haven't noticed.

All I say is...I understand how it is...I WISH it had been different cause it would be awesome.
