I haven't read the script, so I may not be on the same page as all the others who have "lost their faith" out there, but I have one thing to say in defense of our J/E relationship. Actors' portrayal.
There are a million ways to read and emote the same sentence. Look at the kiss scene. This is all the dialogue they have.
Liz: Thank you, Jack
Jack: We're not free yet, love
Liz: You came back. I always knew you were a good man
(hot kiss)
Liz: It's after you not the ship. It's not us. This is the only way, don't you see? I'm not sorry.
Jack: Pirate.
Can't you picture those words being said differently with different facial expressions? But Johnny and Keira chose to play the scene in such a way it suggests a lot more than what's on paper, and I have a feeling they'll do the same in AWE.
That's what I'm saying! Typical Jack would have been scared shitless that he was being chained to the mast. Had anyone else even tried, he would have at least had something to say. But no, he's rendered speechless and dazed by her action and all he can do is say "pirate" which is a whole other can of worms. A whole thread could start just by what he means by calling her that. Even when he's freed himself, he still looks stunned to me.
And Keira. Kisses can be cold and heartless and once Liz broke away from him, that's all there needed to be. That got the job done. But she made her character lean in closer and closer until she had to make herself snap out of it.
