I apologize if this has been discussed before, but It occurred to me that I should look up the meaning of wearing a Hat. And this is what I found.
A display of confidence in a particular outcome. 'She's always late. If she gets that train I'll eat my hat'.
Jack lost his confidence when his hat got lost at sea, and when Liz showed up wearing a similar hat to his, all of a sudden he regained his confidence back.
This is some info that I found regarding Hats, it talks about dreaming with hats but it can be related with DMC. this was written by Freud. Its really interesting trust me. 😉

Misty, that info was incredibly interesting... especially thinking about Jack hiding on the Pearl, running scared, sneaking away from Norrington behind the plant at Tortuga, etc, and then two seconds later, as soon as he runs into Liz, he is making fun of Norrington, being Captain of his ship, etc.
It's on Isle Cruses when Elizabeth's hat falls off that things start to really fall apart with the three men swordfighting as well.
and in the final kiss scene, her hat is gone, there's a moment of incredible intimacy and vulnerablity and another changing of the hands of power-- and then Jack get's his hat back. Lizzie is hatless and emotionally distraught.
LovelyOne brought all this up ages ago and had brilliant theories for it. It's good to remember that one! 🙂

i always thought that yellow ment happiness, oever i don't think that there's any color symbology in this...for some reason i just thought that maybe it looked nice or somethings...or maybe brought out the piratey tone in liz's face...yeah..moreso on my latter theory...

And also not to forget that little scene where Jack, while in Tortuga, Keeps taking Hats off of other men and keeps changing the hat cause none of them feel right....then Lizzie shows up with a Hat that looks exactly like Jack's!!!! So yes ur right about the confidence thing!! and it could be that Jack is at a place in his life that he's debating what to do with his life!
and what Kate pointed out about when they had the Kiss was a great catch.... none of them were wearing hats...it was just them!! no hiding behind hats...like that saying goes!

^^ I dont know....i just think it's just really weird how in the Kiss Scene....they were both Stripped (from hats).....and then Jack looses his hat, and then Jack searches for a hat in Tortuga, and Lizzie shows up with one that looks like Jacks, and then JAck gets his Hat back in the end, and then Jack picks up Barbossa's hat in Tia's Shack....it's almost as if they are telling a story through the HATS u know? They definately made it a point to show a lot of HAT scenes in DMC!!!
