i always thought that yellow ment happiness, oever i don't think that there's any color symbology in this...for some reason i just thought that maybe it looked nice or somethings...or maybe brought out the piratey tone in liz's face...yeah..moreso on my latter theory...
I think her placement in the picture is what is really interesting. There are really two different kinds of pirates. There are pirates who are truly pirates, like Barbossa. Men who kill without question, who rape, pilege, plunder and don't give a hoot, (really bad eggs), and pirates like Jack. Though Jack is essentially a pirate, he didn't start out life as a pirate, apparently, and he has a more compassionate nature than the typical pirate. He lives by his wits, rather than by the sword.
Now, let's take a look at Elizabeth. The writers have said that she's more of a pirate than any of the other characters. It's true that her actions have a more selfish quality to them than most of the other characters. Look at her motivations for sacrificing Jack. So the question is, which type of pirate does she more closely align herself with?
I'd say that because she's in the center of the two men, that by AWE, we see her striking a balance between the two, to where she has a little of Barbossa's ruthlessness, but at the same time, the best part's of Jack's compassion and cunning to make a whole pirate.
The picture actually reminds me of the moments when a cartoon character has a choice to make. A little devil and angel pop up on the opposing shoulder of the main character to offer their advice.
Not to mention, that Singapore is a place of great signifcance to Jack Sparrow, so the fact that Elizabeth has so readily adopted the culture is suggestive in and of itself. Her costume also strikes a balance between the masculine and feminine. In CotBP we see her dress as a feminine china doll, which while she can wear it, the clothing seems like an ill-fit. The same might be said of the more masculine dress in DMC. Though she can wear it, it's not quite a comfortable fit for her. This costume is sort of a combination between the two, and surprising makes use of a corset like cumberbun. It's ornate enough with the patterns and embrodery to appear feminine, but it doesn't restrict her ability to move.
I can't tell, but is Jack wearing human hair on his belt? It's in the far right hand corner? What is that?
Ok, random off topic symbol but I thought of it the other day. Since DMC is coming out in the States in two days, I think it's relevant to bring it up. When Elizabeth is behind bars in the prison, and the men in the cell next to her are cat calling her, that is symbolic of the Pirate life style beckoning to her.
Obviously, the men in the cell have other things on their mind, but if you think about it, and look at the way she's demurely sitting while they're calling to her, I'm fairly certain that's what is meant. It foreshadows the floating dress scene later in the film.

Yes, regarding Jack and certain other moments. I've been dying to discuss them. Thoughts?
This is what I think about the reunion, notice that Jack is the one that starts cold shouldering her. When Will finds her crying it seems to me like she has been crying of disappointment. Maybe she thinks Jack doesn't feel the same way she does for him. And maybe that is because she starts cold shouldering to, and kissing Will's behind. What do you think about the"Cant trust me scene"?

There are many different types of tears, as you're probably well aware. What I thought was interesting about the scene was that she was crying tears of relief, not tears of remorse. That's what the stage directions said anyway. So, was she relieved that the truth was finally found out, or, was she relieved that Jack was finally safe at last?
Your perspective is interesting! I never thought of it that way, at all. Maybe you're right. I don't have the events leading up to the you can't trust me scene, but what you say is suggestive. Since the rough draft script, Jack's greeting of her is still cold, but her's has changed from being condescending to surprisingly warm. Actually, your explanation explains the scene later in the cabin. Remember that one?

Welll if i can put my 2 sense in....i think she was crying in disaapointment too.....and when she told Will "you thought i loved him" i thought that was weird, why say it now? why couldnt u just explain that to Will b4 if she knew thats what he thought, instead she ignored him and pushed him away alomst avoiding him until she had a chance to talk to JACK......I think it was because up until that point she still had hope that Jack would admitt something to her about his feelings but instead he cold shouldered her and thats when she knew nothing would happen so she finally came out to Will by saying "u thought i loved him" because she now believes theres no hope!
hope i make sense!
I definitely think you're onto something Piratediva. You did notice that she didn't deny or admit to any of her feelings. And whenever Will comes close to questioning her about those feelings, she tries to escape or avoid it.
Does anyone know what occurs before this scene, or who it was that tells Will about Elizabeth's dealings on the Pearl? If it's Jack, then that says a lot right there.
