Rehabilitation
Retribution
Deterance
Why on earth should I feel compassion for pedophiles, molesters and murderers? No one forced them to do what they did. You can speak about urges but what is supposed to make us human is our ability to deny instinct and control our impulses.
In every other aspect I am a very left-wing person politicaly. But when it comes to punishment our legal system is a joke.
Up here in Canada there is a commerical showing the woman who spear headed prison reform in Canada. She whacks a leather strap down on the desk and asks "Is this 'Normal'?" I wish I would've been there, cause I would've gone and gotten the case files of people who have been brutally raped, molested and murdered, then I would've said the same thing back to her.
What good is it to pay taxes to keep someone in prison for the rest of their life? What good is it to keep someone alive who if given the oppertunity will offend again and again.... There was a case in Canada last month of a pedophile who was released in Toronto who even said if he was given the oppertunity he would offend again.
It's missplaced pity like yours that allows these monsters to keep on offending.

Your first post in this thread suggested that we forcibly drug people and then, if that didn't work, violently mutilate them. All because they suffer from an illness that gives them the potential to commit crimes.
