Yes but they interpret what is best for the common man. The point is our system works like this, you elect the officials you believe share your ideals and values and then they write the laws as they think is best. Your vote is where your involvement ends. And my goals are only misguided in your opinion, there is a large group of society that agrees with bringing back the death penalty.
