hip hop artists? materialistic? surely you jest.

Actually, there is a sub-culture of materialism within the hip-hop culture. And the glorification of the poverty (for those who are not poor more than those who are).

It is also called a strain theory.

It is a dictated cultural aspects of young black males today. The differance is that some resist it and other do not.

Either way. You are agreeing to some idiotic generalization of a group of people. Very weird. Wouldn't have thought you would. But, hey, though you are wrong, it's okay.

just listen to "real big" by mannie fresh.

i said materialistic tack and majority

i live near a major uk black area and the majority are obsessed with materialism often above there means
they starve for a fortnight to get the latest trainers(sneakers if your in the US) either that or they rob u for them
ive seen it happen
they favour two mobile phones instead of one
they insist on drinking champagne in bars
wear the loudest track suits they can

they try to live the gangta/rap star lifestyle on £56 a week
and as i see in my local newspaper every night if they cant afford it they go and get it whatever means they can

Are you actually going to fly in the face of common sense because there is tenuous theoretical backing?

Also, do you equate 'hip-hop culture' with 'black people'?

This obvoulsy means that you think shes talking rubbish. Hey maybe your black I dont know, but there is a tendency from some white people that if you say anything about black people they automatically assume that a person is racist.

Listen mate, I can verify what hes saying and I have met loads of people who can verify this to. Hes not saying that all black people and all hip hop is materialistic he is just talking about his experience.

Do you speak without thinking? You clearly said 'Is it me or...'. I said 'It's you'.

Seems perfectly sensible to me.

No, he quite clearly said 'the majority of black people', with no qualification at all.

no, you are right there, i totally agree. but you have to look at what goes on in the world. example:
a while back the governor of illinois pardoned 5 guys on death row, reverting their death sentences to life sentences. the inmates were all black.

most of the time when i read about a rape or a murder in the paper, its almost always a black suspect.
look at rae carruth, biggie smalls, tupac. all black guys who did some questionable things.

i am not saying black people are all bad, there are just as many bad white people out there. but the public tends to notice when a black person breaks the law more than they do a white person. its just the way the world is. i dont like it, but what are we gonna do?

I have no clue what you are referring to. And I would assume one should try to change it, cause it is idiotic?

you said that not all black people are greedy. i was agreeing with you. i also stated why some people look at blacks the way they do.

its not that complicated.

But you just said that people tend to notice criminal behaviour in blacks more. Which is an idiotic thing. Also a different topic.

Common sense? Please do elaborate on that. I am curious.

The matter of the fact is, a lot of 'common sense'' bullshit is not actually that. It is a myth believed by a lot of people then passed on like a common sense.
Perfect example being Mother teresa and her ''holyness'' and the ideas on ''rape''.
Eitherway...

Young black males are bombarded with bullshit they SHOULD do and the way they SHOULD behaive even if they don't want to do so.
It is a cultural backlash of the consumerism.

There are plenty of those people who have testified to the fact that if they do not feel like doing something they are dictated to by the media and certain peers, they are often accused of acting ''white'' (whatever that means).

This is not a ''selected few'' acting that way - it is a whole subculture of people.

People who DO NOT fit that profile are those who have resisted it, because they had the means to do so.

I am not claiming there is a ''one-fit-all'' theory - but when a trend begins to happen, one should not ignore it for a politically correct ''common sese'' excuse.

no, its totally linked. you stated that not all blacks are greedy, as the world sees them. i explained why some people look at them that way.

seriously, what dont you get?

Yeah its true, because of this people assume that im going to do certain things or have certain tastes. Like for example if your into alternative some black people will make fun of you.

There this freestyle in this film about Uk hip hop were some rapper is dissing another rapper by saying he saw him dressed like Marilyn Manson.

Nuff said.
