Actually, no.

People seem to not have the understanding that Dictionaries like American heritage do not properly define major abstract concepts.

Adam's definition is much more correct and comes from a source that deals with the intellectual intricacies of a concept such as religion.

Thus, this is not a "to each his own" deal.. You definition is grossly inadequate.

However, the Encyclopedia of Philosphy is not the end all and there are differing views on the definition of a religion. Buddhism can easily fall into many.

The Encyclopedia of Philosophy is written by specialist authors, edited by a comittee of specialists in the field, and peer-reviewed; it may not be definitive, but it is authoritative.

*..as is the American Heritage dictionary...whose lexicographers exstensively study the english language..and its morphologies....come on..is it really that confusing..😕

*but in the context of this debate..we still dont want to forget how ones god defines religion as well. in christianity..according to scriptures..anything one follows instead of the god of the bible becomes their religion or god.

*in secular belief systems..there is no spiritual god..so then of course the government becomes god...so regardless of what philosphical books or definitions either of us posts..the primary definitions we get, will always be given or defined by the god that we follow...my friend..😉

..what horrible logic.

American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source god

*according to the lexicographers who compile the American Heritage dictionary...who exstensively study morphologies and common meaning of english words.. it makes plenty of sense my friend..😉

That still doesn't make the government automatically the God of a secular society. I happen to not idealize or worship my government.

Anything can be person's god (hell pyromaniacs have been known to call fire their god)

And there are so many better definitions by people wh oactually study the MATERIAL, and not a language.

edit.
