I don't think anyone should be tipped.

Try working a service or retail job and then see how much you think that.

That wasn't the impression I intended to make.

If I had things my way, every service and retail job would be paid just above minimum wage. A fair payment that would add average tips made.

I mean, the tips are taxed anyways. 😬

Making minimum wage higher would help that greatly.

And speaking of, it was voted to be raised in Illinois which makes me happy, it's going to be $7.50 😄

Well, duh. Any earned income is taxed.

haha I find that over here if you want good tips you work for a pub and most pubs have pokies (slot machines) and people who win usually give generous tips.

And he I am stuck n PA with a Minimum wage of $5.25.

Though all raising the minium wage will do is raise unemployment and inflation. **** the economic system.

Awesome. 🙂

The minimum wage in Ohio is $5.15 but it's getting raised to $6.25 or somewhere around there.

No, actually it really won't. Most places that hire people for minimum wage are large corporations and they can easily absorb the raise.

Yes. Should what I make be raised accordingly with the min. wage raise, I'll be making almost $8 an hour once that goes into effect.

What do you plan to do with the difference made?

The Democratic Congress wants to raise the national min. wage to $7.75, I believe.

It's still $5.15 in Indiana glare

Well, I've got car insurance bills to pay, and a trip to England and college stuff to save for.

That would be pretty awesome.

And the minimum wage right now is really kind of ridiculous. You cannot live on $5.15 an hour working full time.

You seem to forget small family buisnesses that will have to fire that nice boy from down the street who needs his five and a quater to feed his daughter, because his wife died, and she didn't have life insurance. Trust me... a lot of places (At least in Pittsburgh) that hire for minimum wage would have to make some paycuts/fire some people were minumum wage to be raised.

I can see a small family business having trouble with it, but they're really becoming quite rare.

The current national minimum wage is not enough to upkeep a standard of living, for that matter. Meaning, you can't live on $5.15 an hour working full time.

Yeah, it's 'Big Business' that opposing it, I don't think any small businesses are really complaining

Sounds good. Glad to know your money is going to a good cause.

Pittsburhg is full of those small family buisnesses. Go to Squirrel Hill, and you'll see it's basically all family buisnesses. (Despite a starbucks and a Barnes and Noble.)

Yup. The small businesses that might have a bit of trouble with raising the wage are fine doing so, but the big box companies like Walmart that can easily absorb the additional cost are the ones pitching fits.

Is that common, though?

No, not at all.

Maybe it's not common around the country, but it is in my area. About half the city is small buisnesses. A raise in Minimum wage would be a real hit on the Burgh.

Servers do not get paid minimum wage in the US. They are paid a significant amount UNDER minimum wage.

Baggage boys do get tipped, actually.

And believe it or not, jobs are not easy to find. Which is why people get stuck working shit ones for shit pay. Because they have no choice in the matter, it's that or nothing.

You should be able to dispute it then, min. wage here is $6.50 I think, currency converter says its about $5US, if you are earning under that and you are over 20 then somethings ****ed up. You're not with any workers unions or anything?

Hell you would make twice that in fast food, why you would get a job like that in the first place is beyond me....srug

$8US = $10AU (Im using this http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi so it might be off), you work at EB right? How the **** does a 20 yr old make under $10AU at a retail chain store? 😑 I gotta say, your economy sucks, you would make more at McDonalds doing piss work than retail.

I work in fast food and I make about $9US @ 19 yrs old, and its not even that big of a chain brand like McD's. And I thought that was piss pay so I got a second job and make $9.6US on training pay with about 3 upcoming pay rises in the next 3 months..

But back on the tipping thing, some of the customers might be doing the same kind of work and simply cant afford to spare the extra $ despite how good the service is, usually they have signs here saying something like 'A 10% service charge applies to all transactions' or something of the sort rather than people paying for what it advertised and then just assuming people will tip.
