My little story wasnt told with the intention of smashing hopes.. I say go for it if you want it... some of the better relationships come form two people who were friends first but at the same time... not all cases are the same and you nned to be sure of how you feel because if it messes up and goes wrong.... sometimes being friends afterwards wont work as well as being friends before. Its toss up really.
