Well, to be fair guys, we don't exactly know what happened that fight.
According to 3S, "having proven her fighting ability" (after Ryu [officially] asked her to go all out) is all that it really indicates - she's basically proven herself to be of enough recognition to garner herself a shitload more students for her dojo and more challengers.
It doesn't make Ryu look bad in the slightest, nor does it really make Makoto look weak either.
I'm pretty sure it didn't, I was just reading up on it. Hang on, I'll find the direct passage.

there's nothing wrong with this. but, if she was defeated badly by Ryu, the logic is, would so many people want to attend her dojo for a fight? and I have a bad feeling that she defeat Ryu.... LET'S HOPE NOT!!!
