No real way to explain it, Could very well have been his speed just bent/space and he went from the middle of the universe to the very wall of it instantly.

But at the same time, it did make the tube, and the boom, involved in boomtubes. But Superman was never given an item to allow him to do this, and no one did it for him.

I remember it vaguely but I don't recall there being the material tunnel thing that BoomTubes have.

Yeah, it really only looks like Galactus in the face. The rest of the body looks like Devilance.
