Cool n'stuff.

I hope it keeps doing well and earns over 9000.

I hope it beats titanic as Titanic is just not a good enough film to be at the top spot...neither is Avatar, but it's certainly much better than Titanic.

I have to disagree. Titanic is more of an iconic film then many films out there. Yeah, it has it's fault, but what good successful film doesn't have it after people start picking at it just to look for it's weakest flaws. The thing about movies with good effect is that they never last. If Avatar takes the #1 spot, in about 3-4 years people will destroy it's reputation like some did with Titanic. They laugh at it's lame attempt at good effects and bad story. It's just how it is.

No. But does that make them a better visual effects house? Sure ILM's won 16 Oscars for visual effetcts compared to WETA's 4 but that's partly because "ILM"'s got what, a little more than decade on WETA.

But it all begins with Avatar. Actually the cgi in the lotr trilogy looked better than the SW (nt) cgi. Compare Gollum and Yoda.

WETA's the new ILM.

Or you could say WETA is the new ILM that needs ILM to help bail them out of situations (Avatar) where they bit off more than they could chew.

Titanic has nothing original or spectacular going for it(Avatar does). Just happens to be a chick-flick set to the backdrop of a well known historical tragedy.

Idiotic women and the poor saps they dragged along on the promise of getting some pussy after the show is what drove its box-breaking sales.

Cool.

Yeah, I can't disagree with you opinion. I just didn't like Titanic nearly as much as Avater.

I like Avatar more too, but I guess you missed my point

I didn't. I think Avatar is more of an iconic film then many films out there. Yeah, it has its faults, but what good successful film doesn't have it after people start picking at it just to look for it's weakest flaws. The thing about movies with good effects is that they never last. However, Avatar will last with only minor differences in CGI effects in future filmes. Applications include real humans being done as CGI.

Sure, it's the best film ever made if you're not considering acting, script or plot. Easily better than The Godfather.
what a douchebaggy way to disagree. My pic does not apply to you sir! my pic does not APPLY TO YOU!

You really thing Avatar is going to have good effects when you compare it to the movies that will come out in 2015, or even 2012? Have you seen movies that are from 2001-4. Some already look very corny, and fake. As good as Avatar is now, it can't last. Especially when you consider how fast technology moves. As of now, Avatar has the best effects in any movie I have seen

I enjoyed Titanic in the first viewing but that was enought. it would of been way better had they maybe just done a stricly documetary type film like TORA TORA TORA.or if one of the guide wires for the smoke stacks had decapitated billy zane after he picked up that kid to save himself.

Funny you should mention that, i was thinking the same thing. when you look at some of the movies from the 80's they are pretty shitty now. But back then we were all blown away. but now with the visuals i was thinking how much better can better get? look at episodes 1 2 and 3 and LOTR those effects are still great and they are around 10 years old. its' like going from VHS to DVD it's 100% better, but from DVD to bluray for me is only 20% better. but is it possible for the picture to be even better? don't know have to wait and see but i hope there are no changes for atleast 15 years.

That's what people said about 5 years and ago and now look at the visuals.

Trust me, technology always advances. There was a review in Hollywood.com that said the same thing I said. Avatar looks awesome now, but in a few years it will be okay, or normal.

noice.

no one's gonna do that for a long, long time. come out with 2 back to back non-franchise, non-sequel, billion dollar grossing movies.

cameron's the man.

'93's jurassic park effects could still hold it's own today. at times i still wonder how spielberg pulled off that t-rex in that rainy scene where it was distracted by the kids flash-light when it walk over towards their jeep. i couldn't explain it. it looked so real, til this day i'm still awed by that scene. like was that cgi or animatronics or what.

that '93 t-rex looked than most dino effects now. and maybe better than any of the large creatures seen in avatar.

it looked so good that notice how every t-rex you see anywhere, tv shows, games, movies, toys, looks exactly just like the jurrasic park t-rex.

that is all true! ✅

i wonder as well why the hell they could get it right in '93 but not now...

FistOfThe North, I am actually excited for your adventure with this film, as well. I wish you were here in OKC so I could attend with you on your virgin experience with Avatar.

It's not the best ever, but it is a really fun adventure and a helluva ride.

I agree with you on that. They knew how and when to use CG, and when not to. I believe that for Jurasic Park, Stan Winston Studios made giant dinosaur puppets that they combined with CG animation by ILM. For instance, the head of the T-Rex was a model or a puppet during the close ups. However, it's eyes and it's blurry body in the background were CG, that sort of thing. I think its the best way to go. Guillermo Del Toro seems to adopt this method, as well as Paul Verhoven did in Starship Troopers, where I thought the ships were amazingly realistic looking.

Watched it tonight and was absolutely blown away. Loved it.

I think its way overrated. The plot reminded me of The Last Samurai and other 'Whites vs Natives' movies, where one of the invaders warms up to the locals and betrays his own.
