T2 is better, imo.

Balls.

Well there is only True Lies, and Titanic left, so hardly going downhill, unless Avatar turns out rubbish and the next, then we can moan. 😛

I meant "downhill" meaning not as good as The Terminator.

Still, Titanic was really f*cking bad... terrible, terrible shit-smelling movie ... so it counts for about 10 bad films : P .

He's like an M. Night, you're saying.

Depends on what you call M. Nights "pinnacle".

Sixth Sense. I haven't seen his two works that precede it, but I hear they're nothing special.

To be honest I liked Unbreakable better than The Sixth Sense (it's the comic book geek in me). But still - yeah downhill from either one, god The Happening was such a POS...

I'm with Backfire, Terminator 2 is superior. And Aliens is pretty sweet.

As for Avatar, I've heard it's a very enjoyable movie. Terrible dialogue, but extremely likable otherwise.

Maybe not 20 at times but at least 10-20 years. And i said legendary, not great. Great movies in the genre come out about every 5 yrs but legendary status is about at least every 10-20 years.

Like for example you had 20,000 leagues in the 1916, king kong and flah gordon in the 30's, the blob in the 50's, 2001 and planet of the apes in the 60's, Star Wars in the 70's, Aliens, Terminator, and Blade Runner in the 80's, Total Recall, Matrix, Jurassic Park and T2 in the 90's, And Star Trek '09, and Avatar in the new millenium.

You're forgetting Gone with the Wind and a lot of other films more legendary than most of those films you listed.

Also, that seems more of your personal measure of what you like rather than what is actually "legendary" by the population.

Total Recall, T2, Star Trek '09, Aliens, and even the 60s Planet of the Apes are not legendary films, at all.

Here's a better list:

Gone with the Wind, Godfather Part 1, Dark Knight, Casablanca, Star Wars, E.T., Titanic, and 2001 Space Odyssey. Those are legendary films in both sales, opinion from both professionals and amateurs, and production quality. (For their times.)

You can go to IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes to find a better list than mine, but that was just off the top of my head.

Here's what I'm saying: Your measure of Legendary seems to be your own and not with the masses. Calling a film "legendary" implies that it's with the masses. In your case, it's not, it's your opinion.

I hope the movie is awesome, though. Legendary? Maybe. Can't tell yet. I don't see anything out of this world about the CGI, so I don't even think it's grondbreaking.

IMO Cameron's movie making skill met it's pinnacle with The Terminator... almost everything since then has been down-hill fluff.

You mean "Titanic", not Terminator.

And, it's possible that this film will be in the same range as Titanic.

Titanic is one film of his that i have'nt seen and i don't wish to.... but i do like all his other works.

Hey - wait a minute! 😱

I just re-watched Volume 2 of Genndy Tartakovsky's STAR WARS: CLONE WARS, and I see Cameron's aliens right in there! The Nelvaanians saved by Anakin - it's blatant copying!

Avatar's getting pretty positive reviews as of now - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/avatar/

I don't think Cameron copied it from Clone Wars since he had the script for a long time.

Not sure about mentioning The Dark Knight between The Godfather and Casablanca...

Anyway, I think he was referring to the science fiction genre there...

I second that

update: Just read some of the reactions on Rotten Tomatoes . Now i am becoming very intrigued. They say Cameron does deliver with something... quite new.

So he says... 😖hifty:

1. Titanic is, in my earnest opinion, THE most overrated film in history.

2. Cameron is not a visionary. He is, though, in my opinion, a talented film maker.

3. This movie looks to be a sweet piece of eye candy. It won't necessarily be a popcorn flick, like Armageddon/2012/10,000 B.C./King Kong/etc, but I have yet to see anything that will make it a milestone of cinema. CGI does not a good film make. Episodes I, II, and III have clearly proven this.

4. 3D is SEVERELY overrated. If I have to put on a pair of paper glasses and go through the annoying process of letting my eyes adjust to see "the true version of the film", then I can't be arsed to do so.

5. I will, in fact, be seeing this at the cinema next weekend.

Dark Knight is actually one of the most highly voted movies, of all time. It's in the top 10 on some lists and in the top 20 on almost all others.

Impediment - It's a new different type of 3D compared to the stuff that has been in cinemas the past year or so. Apparently it's not one to cause headaches either that a lot of people, myself included, get when watching 3D films.

You, too? Man, these 3D films make me nauseated sometimes.

1. Agree, 100%. I still haven't watch the entire film. Nothing special about it, imo. (Other than really really high quality and expensive props.)

2. Agree here, as well. He's better than than the majority...but not the cream of the directing crop.

3. I agree. This film looks like it will be one of the best films this year, but not a "once in a decade" type of film. It will probably be in my top 5 for this year, but not my top 10 of all time. Still, I'll go in with an open mind. And....I LOVED episodes 1, II, and III. 😠

4. I have never seen a 3D film. I look forward to the adventure.

5. Ditto.

5/6 agreements is pretty good odds. (The sixth being: I liked the Prequel Trilogy better than you did...obviously MUCH better.)
