Is Britain racially intolerant?

I'm a thousands miles away from the garbage that is Celebrity Big Brother UK, but I've recently been reading all the news about the racist fiasco engulfing it.

Jade Goody has always been pretty reprehensible in my eyes, but the clips I've seen on YouTube have taken her to the next depth. She and her little cronies come off as retarded, ignorant, little spiteful children, but does their behaviour reflect the general consensus in British society?

Obviously a large number of people have voted to get her evicted, but does this mean that the majority of people in England do find racial intolerance abhorrent, or is it just a superficial showing?

When I was back in England during the summer, I was struck by the amount of intolerance shown towards recent immigrants. This was displayed in a number of newspapers, but also through conversations I had while I was there.

So, what do you think? Is Britain racially intolerant?

from what others here say, racism is pretty bad in the UK.

About the Big Brother thing, what I have seen I am not quite sure whether it is racism which motivates them or if they are just stupid bitches.

As for Britain being racially intolerant, I don't know.

with all the fouled up people out there, i find it hard to believe there isnt one in your homeland.

I can't say if it is or not. I know lots of people who aren't, many who are.

The only kind of racism I hear from people close to me is the armchair "They take all our jobs", racists. Most of these people actually have many friends from said races anyway. It's a bit stupid.

I've never known any real, serious racists.

I think it depends where you go.

Definatley depends on the area
i hear rascist views every day from all sides
its the norm where i live,its worse in the rough areas and its on the rise
i hear why white people are making such comments
gangs of immigrants are groping their daughters at the shopping centre and taking photos
every day there is some black or asian gang attacking whites and causing shit
we have a tv programme called CRIMEWATCH and nearly every ****er on there causing a crime is "of colour"
this is fact
and there is racism going on between blacks and asians
a lot of young asians have money and are faking the Hip Hop lifestyle...the blacks on the other hand are mostly umemployed and are bitter so its always kicking off
another fact
this doesnt go for them all as i know good hard working people of colour but a lot of them are wannabe "GANGSTAS" who are ****ing it up for everyone and doing Serious damage to race relations in the UK

and as for the immigration thing the majority has had enough
there ARE too many coming over and its going to **** everything up in the long run
i get my bus in the morning on a packed bus and apart from another guy who is uk black im the only english guy........even the drivers a Polish immigrant!

i live in Manchester the city of The Smiths,Joy Division,Frank Sidebottom,The Hacienda and grand victorian buildings....day by day its turning into little Africa

Britiain's issue with racism has always seemed pretty mild to me. There are pretty vicious inner city tensions but that's the same in most countries.

the majority of brits who say there aint a race problem in the UK usually come from well to do areas with little or no ethnic areas

and yes we have a land of the free attitude but were smaller than the USA and were at bursting point
we were due thousands of romanians but theyve ****ed off to Spain instead where this a huge immigration problem too

The Big Brother incident is more ignorance than Racism. Ignorance is prevalent in Britain any culture which allows someone like Jade Goodey to become a household name and in some ways a "role model" for the young and ignorant. Has a number of intrinsic problems. Education in the U.K. is generally poor. The "cult of the celebrity" is all pervasive. Ironic as i am posting this response on a movie Website.
Is the U.K. racist, I suspect if you scrape away the veneer yes, I suspect many have made a comment in jest that actually isn't truly in jest.

We're not actually at bursting point at all, and our racial tensions are tiny compare dto those in US inner cities.

People who say we do have a large race problem tend to be those who have lost perspective.
