L.A is a lot bigger than Oldham hence the Oldham riots were easier to contain
sure there were no deaths but given the rise in gun crime and knife attacks in the UK since i guess if it happened today this wouldnt be the casei know the guy charged with inciting the riots
it was an argument that got out of control
next thing a gang of tooled up asians attacked a pub full of people having a quiet drink and it spread from there
Ush why dont you come down from Chelmsford and go for a walk round Glodwick which is pretty much 100% asian and famous for the legend NO WHITES sprayed on a wall as you enter
good luck
sadly youd be doing your moderating Stephen Hawking stylee from then
I know my area,i read my local rag...which has asian correspondants so there is no bias and sadly every night there is some incident involving a racially motivated attack
im sure Chelmsford is a multiciltural wonderland where everyone gets along
unfortunatly Oldham isnt
as for "they took our jobs" my dad has ran a building buisness for years and hes losing contracts because Polish builders are coming over and charging ridiculously low rates..its not just my dad all the builders in my local are feeling it
same goes for the guys on £9 an hour who were laid off from a sheet metal firm only for the boss to take on Poles at minimum wage £5.35 a week later...its happening

Frankly, I don't think I am wrong about the crime thing at all (I think Greater Manchester police figures demonstrate this), whilst I do think you are being hysterical about the issue. The comparison is fair because Oldham is the most significant flare up of racial tensions in the UK in the last two decades- but it barely compares with incidents in other countries, which puts the UK issue into perspective.
I also find it very difficult to have much sympathy for the "We lost jobs because other pople are cheaper" argument. That's just capitalism.
I work closely with minorities as part of my work, one of the main reasons of which is to help get them employed. And one thing is for sure- there is no point trying to lump them into one category as if you can divide the way people work into natural-born and immigrants.
There are pleny of areas in London I could walk around and get the crap beaten out of me by white people. So all that talk really means bugger all. In the mean time, a quick check around the net reveals a lot of opinion saying the demonisation of Glodwock as a no-go area is a myth.
Fact is, if all of this was really evidence of a growing racism problem in Britain, the BNP would be doing brisk business. But it's minute vote share is on the drop once more.
