Looks like it might make its budget cost at least. If that means anything:
So... I was gonna watch Cowboys & Aliens, but I would have to wait one and a half hour for that and I just didn't have the time, so I saw GL instead
Not as bad as I thought. Maybe after all the backlash this movie's been having I had zero expectations for it, so I ended up quite entertained by it 😬
yeah, the nonsensical plot was... nonsensical, and the movie mostly falls apart in the third act, but there were some redeeming qualities to it. It's a shame Reynolds' been suffering with his movies lately cuz he works great in this movie, Blake Lively was a nice surprise as well. Mark Strong was great with what little he was given.
I was never comfortable with the ridiculous look given to Hector, ever since the trailers, and it still was cringe worthy to see it on screen, Sarsgaard did what he could with that. It would have help greatly to have established a little backstory between the characters to at least have some kind of sympathy for the character rather than what was poorly hinted at in the movie.
Some how it remained me of Thor, but at least this one had a rather climatic fight sequence, with a bigger, albeit dumb, stake in it (a whole city with a bunch of dumb people running around scared, then say, a deserted ghost town in the middle of nowhere)
I didn't stay for the post credit sequence, there's youtube for that, but judging by the description, it's kinda like a kick in the balls to everything that transpired in the movie... will check out that later
just like Thor, It'll give this movie a 7 (I was entertained by it, whoever doesn't agree can suck it 😛)

I didn't think it was going to get that. Not too bad, I guess.

Not when you (the studios) only get back roughly 50% of ticket sales from the theatres. Try again.
I was at Fan Expo in Toronto over the weekend; saw in the DC area the DVD is ready to arrive October 14.

Obviously they spent way too much on the film and its not gna make any profit.. But grossing over 200mill shows there was an audience at least. And thats even with a pretty poor script. So its really upto the studio if they want to do anything to change that.

Ask the makers of The Golden Compass that, or Godzilla. Those two made nearly $400 million worldwide, but it wasn't enough to save the franchises from being scrapped.
Like The Golden Compass, Green Lantern really underperformed at home in North America. To the studios, that's the worst sin of all.
I understand the movie was financially a flop. It doesnt take a genius to do the math there. They horridly overspent and took a huge gamble with a hero who isnt very well known, (especially outside America) and on a film which was poorly executed and had no big stars selling it either.
All Im saying is they should leave it for a few years (5-10) and then think about rebooting. Possibly taking it in a whole new direction like Animated (since the special effects seem to cost too much). There is an audience there if done right, and he is one of DC's biggest heroes.
But of course he's had his turn now, so they should give priority to The Flash or Wonderwoman for now.

I agree GL is too interesting a property not to try again with. The question is how long DC will wait to try a reboot. Could be years, or it could be decades (see the Dune franchise) Or come at him sideways with a Justice League picture.

Supposedly one is in the works already. They'll just reboot it in a few years. Seeing as Harry Potter is gone.
Last I heard nothing's confirmed on that:
