Astonishing Calumny!

(small spoiler) Was anyone else as scandalized by Astonishing X-Men 28 as I was? Emma was written to be so incapable! After her power was dampened and Storm asked how she could fair without it, she answered "Scott's been instructing me in hand-to-hand and I can feign a dead faint."
Wrong, so very, very wrong! Emma was made to take a sidebar while Storm did all the work.
Not only has she been shown on numerous occasions kicking ass like a pro on her own (a la the Sage/Bishop fight in X-treme X-men, where she fought against two people who are extremely efficient in close combat), but she's even shown great prowess in hand-to-hand in EARLIER ISSUES OF ASTONISHING (Whedon's run, namely Unstoppable). Hell, she even took on WarSkrulls with her bare fists in Secret Invasion without having to turn to diamond. I'm so sick of Warren Ellis's utterly weak, uselessly autocratic take on her character, especially since it's quite clear that he has no real understanding of her and hasn't done any homework in consideration of her - he's devolved her to the status of a dumb blonde!

I nearly vomited when I read that line so co-sign... was lame and underrating. So glad I'm not the only one to find that work a pile of BS.

If anything, Scott won't be training her from scratch- even back in Generation X when she was depowered and Banshee tried to mock her cause of that she just went and kicked his ass using some judo\aikido. Scott should be helping to hone what's there, and that "what's there" was definetely not noob level.
If anything, NOTHING in Emma's powerset\character prevents her from "pulling a Prodigy" and just telepathically copying fighting skills of people surrounding her (guys like Scott and Wolvie included) so that not to give the likes of Storm false feeling of superiority... Cheap? Yet effective.

Same with X-Men:Words Apart #4 prewiev. Emma in diamond form was shown not only to be unaffected by Scott's blasts but REFLECTING them for damn sake (and on last panel of #3 we actually see'em reflecting\ricocheting). Yet on the 1th panel of issue #4 Emma is in human form on the floor, her clothes on the chest covered in blood... WTF?

On a different note, here is the actress who's playing Emma (probably as a late teenager) in the upcoming Wolverine movie.

Looks good to me. 👆

What does Emma have to do with Weapon X or Wolverine and his origin?

On a different note, hot damn she is fine. If I were gay she would make me go straight.

There's some truth in that, but I thought that line was funny a possible shout out to all the many coma's she's been in.
I think she's capable enough, but wouldn't want to get her hands dirty on menial tasks...why would she need to when she has the help to take care of things. But it's true she has been suffering telepathic syndrome for the past few issues, it's to do with her abilities they can some times make it hard for writers to come up with decent threats.

Just a small interjection here, Emma fought Bishop and Sage in diamond form, not flesh and blood. Also, she lost that fight.

Just that she may have been part of Stryker's program, recruited willing or unwilling when she was a kid. Not the same origin as in the comics, but interesting nonetheless. Marvel would seem to have future plans for her, as this story takes place 15 years before the first X-Men, so she could be seen in later films as a mature woman.

That's how I saw it as well, a joking reference to the comas.

As for Emma being a good hand-to-hand fighter, not really. She is passable compared to average humans perhaps but not against other fighters, it's just not her thing (and that is as it should imo). She definitely has no business fighting a huge monster without either tp, diamond form or other weapons. Storm had a knife at least.

Exodus' explanation is good with me, and in fact it's not like Emma is a big fan of being a "brute" when she can have someone else do that (the one she don't respect). In fact, it's even shown there in Ellis regular style of "explaining to dumbass" with Storm being said dumbass (a friend of mine pointed out to me).

very lovely respect thread for Miss Frost, one of my favorite characters,if anyone has any cool pics of her hanging out with Scott when not in uniform please can you send them to me.

Uncanny X-Men Annual #2
Writer:Matt Fraction Artist:Mitch Breitweiser

Fulfilling her personal goals in Dark Reign (aka making Namor following him) Emma tricks both Namor and Shaw using fine amouth of mind control and illusions (was lazy to upload scans myself so credit goes to guy222

Emma is pure female awesomenes!!!

When you consider the comas, it does have a certain humor to it.

As far as Emma having no business "fighting a huge monster without either tp, diamond form or other weapons," let's just direct ourselves back to her knocking the crap out of a warskrull during Secret Invasion without any of those things readily on hand. =D

Can her diamond form survive unaided in space?

Considering that Colossus can't, and their powers are similar, just with different materials. She more than likely can't either.

But then again Emma doesn't need to breath, is immune to cold and pressure changes in her diamond form, so logically she should very well be able to survive in space.

The same applies to Colossus, who has held his ability long before Frost. And like I said, their powers are similar. Organic Steel for Pete, Organic Diamond for Emma. And Colossus durability far surpasses hers, she even has a shatter point, just like a regular diamond, a tap there and she's dead. Colossus has been launched into space on several occasions, and died because of it, so if he can't survive, Emma can't either.

I know all of that, that's why i said "she SHOULD" and not "she IS". And i didn't put her durability above Colossus'. Due to his powerset he SHOULD be able to survive in space too.

Not that it's bound to happen, but there have been numerous occasions in comics, in which characters with comparable/identical powersets, who are experiencing comparable/identical situations, against all logic, where portrayed differently.

You make good arguments, and I agree with your logic. I guess the best we can come up with is a maybe. Since they might do her exactly like Colossus, or do something different. I guess we'll find out if she ever gets launched out of the air lock.
