It was not "awesome", it was actually a little disappointing ... it took ages to build up to something happening and as soon as something did happen the comic ended.😐
Co-signed.
I'm glad Avengers: The Inititave got the nod for an ongoing series and this was made a mini, Slott's doing a much better job on the former IMO.

Considering how they have treated Alpha Flight characters in the past, the way Mike is dealing with Tanaraq is AWESOME.

Mike has gone onto record saying the way OF has been written was on the basis of it being an on-going. Marvel screwed him over, not leaving him much time to change his story.
The reviews have been favorable

But comics should present the world not as it is, but as it could/should be...
So you think there should be people who are pure evil fighting people who would never do a single thing to harm another person in any way?
How would you relate to those characters? it's completely unrealistic ... even by comic/sci-fi standards.

I wouldn't say the concept is outdated
There are definitely people out there who really are just plain out evil, selfish beings.
Not every goddamn villan has some sympathetic backstory or something like that. Sometimes, bad guys are just bad

In the sense of using comics as a moral allegory (that good triumphs over evil, that truth/virtue/etc. are laudable ideals, and so on) then yes, I do.
I think we get the message better and are engaged more when we have a clear idea of who's on which side.
The same applies with movies...name a movie with an ambiguous good guy/bad guy relationship, and it'll probably be the exception to the rule.
By the way, this concept goes back to Aristotle and before...

True...even so, we generally have to have some reason to at least identify with them, otherwise the moral of the story gets diluted.
Instead of being able to see that same evil within us, when faced with an unsympathetic antagonist we generally find ourselves saying that there's no WAY we could harbor that kind of evil within ourselves...
It's a precarious balance.
I know this post and the one directly above seem contradictory, but I can guarantee you that the two ideas are in fact compatible...
