Yeah I know all that, is the thread called Christian questions or Islam questions? It doesnt change the fact that some of the violence we see in Islam is due to its laws and history. Talking about Christains doesnt negate anything from Islam.
It is relevant when an individual uses the Crusades (incorrectly mind) to empathise his point about how evil Muslims are now and were in the past. Nor was it a Christian, it was a statement in reply to off-centre statements made by others (Uhhhh! Tha Crusades happened because the Muslims were sacking and destroying Jerusalem! I like Butterflies!)
But don't feel any need to question his blanket statements making use of such things, after all, one doesn't want to put those who support your stance of side, even if they have their history all muddled.
1) Theives get thier HANDS CHOPPED OFF
2) Gay men and boys are HUNG OR CASTRATED
3) ATHEISTS and JEWS ARE FORCED INTO EXILE OR EXECUTED
4) WOMEN ARE RESTRICTED FROM MANY FREEDOMS AND BEATEN AND WHIPPED IF THEY TRAVEL ALONE OR SPEND TIME WITH A MALE WHO IS NOT A RELATIVE OR HUSBAND
5) Accused Liars or Slanderers have thier TONGUES CUT OFF
Those things happen - though they are legal in those nations. Any one with a sense of human rights would likely argue they are wrong, and I would tend to agree...
But out of interest, in terms of modern Islamic nations - say Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia - do you have figures of how prevevalant such punishments are? I mean in the terms of the number of gays and atheists executed annually, or the number of theives debrived on their hands on an annual basis?
I remember a case of a Pakastani man being sentance to be blinded with acid after he blinded a women with acid (though I can't remember if the sentant was ever carried out), likewise the 2005 execution of two gay Iranians. Because I know that they have laws that can use such harsh penalties, but such penalities aren't always used. Of course one could say that a single such act is one to many.
Perhaps you would get more of a response if you posted data "x number of gays/atheists were executed in 2004 on charges of gayness/Athiestness" rather then just saying "they execute gays, they exectute gays." And what ever happened to that Republican senator from a few years ago who said he would support a law that executed people guilty of "homosexual acts"?
