the writing is terrible! If that is Our Captain Atom, he's extremely out of character, to the point it's disgusting. But the whole book's dialogue is just painful. He has obviously gone a bit crazy.
Don't jump to conclusions. They not going to change a character without a reason when its that big a change.
The whole suit thing? Obviously something happened to him to make him need the suit.

So repeating "I don't read much" is a good argument.
When the fact is yes they probably have reasons and it is probably important to the plot. It makes sense to make a big change in him for the big event if he is so important to it while giving a reason eventually when the time comes.
Assuming they changed the character completly with no explanation is jumping the gun quite a bit.

Go read Countdown arena number 2, and read that garbage dialouge, and tell me that he's being well writtan. They've struggled on finding ways to write captain atom for over 10 years, it's lazy writing to try turning him into a villain, again.

Why the need for such a powerful army is beyond me. And why kill 2 of his three, when he could just keep all three versions. That is so dumb. I'd rather have 3 superman fighting for me than one.

Maybe if it was for nothing but a mini or what have you but obviously they thought he was the best character for this big event and has plays a big part.

2006.
2005 was Wildstorm, and when he returned from wildstorm, in issue 9, he was fine, it wasn't until one year later they changed his character, and ignore the ending of armaggedon. They have jsut started using Monarch consistantly. before his last set of appearances, he only popped up Bludhaven, and in Ion #10. Hi character change is lazy writing.

Capt. You have a good opinion on Monarch. However, what I don't see to connect is that you're saying the writting in Arena is bad. How can it be bad when DC is finally illustrating the full power capacity of Captain Atom?
Smacking a superman like he was a fly....facing three GL...nearly destroying an entire planet with just a simple gesture...Aren't you satisfied with the feats? If it's terrible writing then are the feats terrible too?

i like how their showcasing his powers, but it's very hard for someone whos' read every issue he's been in, to grasp the fact that he'd destroy planets like that. And the dialouge was very lame, between all the characters, very lame.

the premise is poor, and the dialouge, that doesn't make the fights bad. He's done things over the last 20 years that complement what he did in arena

if im not mistaken i believe they did the ol retcon to suit capt. atom's new persona. turns out that way back in the secret origin days when Nat got his powers the real him stayed in the bleed for years while a quantum energy induced doppleganger came into the universe and played hero......my monarch wtf moment would have to be how in countdown when he pulled a b*tch move on forerunner and she did a couple of back handsprings and put him down, and threatned to end him if he ever did dumb shit like that again, to which he replied if you breach my armor im just gonna explode, but in arena he is casually backhanding Superman like he was some punk ass b*tch😆
