Darkseid vs. Thanos

Desaad wasn't bad. And of course Darkseid came to the scene masterfully. But then, he's the only one who got to fully manifest.
He really didn't even manifest. He says when he talks to Superman that his frail body was chosen to break Superman's will and the old man's will. It wasn't a real god body. They even talked about how their celestial temporary bodies, I guess the ones that we are used to seeing, were stronger than the ones made in the factory. The grand scope of the series was awesome. But it just failed to deliver the terror and fright of the original crisis. At least DS was a threat to the multiverse itself.

I didn't read it.

But Seige better then FC? My ass it is.

It's all personal preference but Siege was far more enjoyable than fc which was mainly a snoozefest to me.

We did see his spirit, the thing Galan has as his signature. And he did partially manifest, how else did the multiverse collapse, or the earth and space/time around it contract "like a fist closing" 😉. It was pretty scary, but not long enough. It just got resolved too fast.

Still no multiversal feats for DS yet eh? Sweet

I'd say it got resolved for 'us' reading it pretty fast, but in the DCU it was longer (or I at least hope it was).

Off Topic: has there been any mention/hint of DS returning?

In one of the JLA books recently Doctor Impossible tried to bring him back but brought back Omega Man instead. Other then that nothing else.

Some guy named Doctor Impossible tried to use an ersatz Orion to rez him. He swiped the tech from the Crime Syndicate of America, who were trying to ressurect Alexander Luthor Jr. Unfortunately, the plan backfired and instead they got something called "The Omega Man." Who quickly turned on them.

Edit: DAMN YOU, KEVDUDE! durfist

"Seven Soldiers over FC." That's actually believable, probably because I feel FC needed at least one or two more issues. It felt like they wrapped it up too soon.

Though, the part about DS liking fair, just combat: only when he feels it suits him. Recall that he deliberately arranged for the pact with Highfather to be broken by sending Scott Free to Granny. He did occasionally like to indulge in cheap shots, like the times he tormented Superman in pre-crisis.

Darkseid sending Scott Free to Granny has nothing to do with belief in the elegance of combat. No, he wasn't a slave to fairness the way that someone like Steppenwolf was -- that was the whole delineation between the two of them, and the way they approached Izaya the Inheritor/Avia. That's Darkseid as a pragmatist.

But he didn't believe in twisting war into something wholly souless (Hunger Dogs) and he didn't believe in taking pleasure in the pain and torment of others (Orion vs Kalibak, vs The Forever People). He was actively SICKENED by Desaad, on a regular basis, and killed him after just 11 issues after all.

Darkseid sending Scott Free to Granny is him playing 100% by the rules, not breaking his word at all. Sure, he gooses the SPIRIT of the agreement by staying true to the LETTER, but that's sort of the point. 🙂

Spot on Desaad
