And no cookie for making link with real Sennacherib? Not his army, after all?

It's not a coincidence.

Hey, this guy laid siege to Jerusalem as well!

There's another name for that.

Do they have to do with a shift in the balance of power?

2- Greeks rise at the expense of the Persians.
3- Moors finally lose to Franks.
4- Basically the very beginning of the proof that colonies can stand against their rulers.
5- Napoleon could actually be stalled, if not defeated.
6- Kinda unsure about this one, after it, troops weren't mobile again until WW2, but then, it was only the Germans who had mastered the art.

EDIT: Another name for Jerusalem is Zion.

Your logic there is good but not consistent., As I pointed out above, there are better choices if that is the logic. Issus is where the Persians were broken, for example, not Granicus.

Indeed, Zion may be the clue.

But he didn`t sack the city! According to his record he was paid, and Bible says Angels made him withdraw, yes?

Ah, seems Helios has got the final point there...

Yes.

Jerusalem was never taken by the Assyrians.

Jerusalem- Zion- was the final remaining city of its civilisation.

But the result of this battle is unclear and not that significant?

Edit- I didn`t see your last post, Ush...

If Jerusalem had fallen, Judaism would have ceased to exist. There would be no Judasim, Christianity, or Islam.

Is that the link, Ush? Had each of these battles gone the other way, a religion, belief, or ideal would have been extinguished?

I see.... though according to Sennacherib`s own account he was paid a tribute from Jerusalem, so he won....

Wait, but Sennacherib`s the machine name...... his purpose has ended, he is not supposed to fight Zion?

You are hard pressed to say that about the Marne. And what ideal was there at Granicus River, other than the legend of one man, for whom it was not even his greatest battle?

Nice try though, and it's all around the right area.

What about my questions? Is the lack of knowledge concerning that battle of significance?

They're all final stands. Victorious or not. (Well, some of 'em, kinda.)

1-Already explained
2- Persians last chance to really prove they're better than Greeks.
3- Franks last to stand for Christianity.
4- One that doesn't seem to fit
5- Russians last to oppose Napoleon on the continent.
6- Another that doesn't seem to fit.

It's not the only one we know little about.

Granicus was hardly a last stand, that was Gaugamela for King Darius...

Hmmm.

Well, my knowledge of this aspect of history is not great.

But all the battles listed are described as being either the first of something, or last of something. And I'm pretty sure THAT is significant.

True. After that though, the Persians never really had a chance.
