USH'S MATRIX GAME 2006 THIRD ASSIGNMENT- 'The Fortress'

"Oh," Heph says. "Well, I'm from the States...technically."

"In fact the term 'The System' refers to a collective idea that does not apply to the circumstances of my creation. But I was created with purpose, yes, as are all Machines, and no Machine can escape it.

"Should Alexander not win?"

"No, that's not what I meant," Heph says. "Granicus River was his first victory against King Darius III. I just meant that him winning does not match my conception of the other dioramas..."

"But you have altered your purpose when your services were not longer required? Do Machines have a concept of "free will"? You know that all of us chose Zion because of our love of freedom." -Melkor wants to see how far he can push this subject.

"But those battles are far from over, I think." -Melkor smiles confidently.

"I thought we had established Jerusalem seems about to fall."

"No Machine can escape its purpose. And of course theire is free will. But there is also such a thing as a pointless life.

"You did not answer my question about Alexander."

"Something could look to be finished but not, there's always a possibility of something unexpected happening." San says. "Though it doesn't look good."

"Oh, well, no, he should win. That's what happened, isn't it?"

"I was asked if the battles were going as they should. Not as they did.

"The battles will proceed as they seem right now"

"What do you mean by should? Historical accuracy or any other considerations? Personally I don`t care about Alexander or Darius, as most of us here. Doesn`t only the strong and worthy deserve victory in the art of war? I think you would agree with this argument."

"If you wanted a certain interpretation of 'should', then you should have specified when you asked."

"You know much. You know humans, you have studied our history, you know our mythology, our cultural references. But do you understand? Do you know WHY Alexander dives into the heart of the battle? Why the Americans stay on the hill and fight, even though there is no way for them to win? Why we fight? Why we die?"

"Yes."

"'Should' according to who?"

"But all those battles are reconstructed to be faithful to your knowledge of history?" -Melkor wants to establish some firm ground.

"I think my answer to the question made that exceedingly clear." (Answering Heph)

"The circumstances are."

"Can the results be diffrent if circumstances remain unchanged?"

"Of course."

You seem incredibly sure of something even we are not able to completly explain."
