Guinness was told that Obi was to killed off midway and was mighty pissed off
Lucas realised that Obi didnt have anything to do after the rescue of Leia so ditched him
Lucas told Guiness itd be good if he sacrificed himself for the character and impact on the audience.
and to clear up Han was only to die in ROTJ at Fords request which Lucas said no to as it would upset the "kids"
I think Gary Kurtz said the original plan was always to have Han die and Leia (not to be Luke's sister) to return to the remnant of her people. (Also, Luke would only defeat Vader in ROTJ and the Emperor's turn would come around three episodes later). But Lucas decided to speed things up, turned Leia into Luke's sister and had her marry Solo, whom he did not want to die.
So ROTJ is pretty much Lucas going out on his own... and with the PT we see the same hand of the master.
this ties up with "the other" being Lukes sister but not Leia
that was to be another character in the 7th movie which never happened according to the ex Lucasfilm employee who got shafted
i always took these claims from Kurtz as the ramblings of a bitter man out to make some money doing interviews with his hot claims of what would have happened next had the next trilogy been made
although the evidence is there in quotes made around the time of Empire that there were to be 9 films i dunno if Lucas has ever confirmed the contents of the missing trilogy the way Kurtz claims
Exactly. The nest three episodes would be about Luke trying to find his hidden sister and getting ready to destroy the Emperor. Judging the pacing of ANH and ESB that makes a lot of sense. ROTJ feels too hurried, to quick to tie things up and makes the Emperor in a way a bit easier to defeat.
But then, the precious 'Balance of the Force' prophecy would have to have gone out of the window. And we don't want that, because that was such a masterful plotline to include..... right?
