Lucas's planning?

Yuck... too explanatory.

no more pointless than Luke training jedi afterwards.

Well, I agree with you up to a point. I guess all the villains are dead...

What, why? Wouldn't it be great if learned how the Jedi come to be, whats wrong with that?

No. Too boring, I don't need everything explained to me. I like to use my imagination.

well the Jedi Academy books did well enough
im sure there could have been someone out there to take on Luke post ROTJ
Whatsisface Plagueis resurfacing
surely an EU book in the making

I bet... but a movie? Dunno.

Its too distant, has no practical relevance on the story.

The Jedi Academy books if i rember had Luke in the first book on a quest for force sensitive beings throughought the galaxy taking them back to Coruscant and training them up
im sure one fell to the darkside
its all vague as i read it in 96 but throw in Plagueis,an action filled quest, some disalusioned ex Empire bods conspiring against Leia and a decent bit of writing and im sure id be more jazzed than i was after reading the TPM plot
some talk about taxation, spaceship breaks down, spaceship gets fixed, space battle - THE END

From what I've read, Lucas plan was to kill off Han, yet to keep the young naive farmboy vs anti hero pirate balance, Lando would have become one of the main protagonists, instead of nesting as a supporting character.

You can see how he laid the foundations for this too, but then I suppose Han was so popular that taking him out of the story simply wasn't a viable option. I think Lucas tried to pass this off as showing Lando eventually following the arc Han did, from self serving pirate to an Alliance operative, but of course, it really isn't necessary; we've seen Han change already. Because of this, I've always felt Lando was contrived and rather unneccesary.

However, if Lucas, at the point of ESB, still believed he'd be able to make his saga 9/12 episodes wrong, and was to kill of Han, he may have intended Lando to play a much larger part in the saga.

Maybe. But Luke would have been older with another quest of his own: to find his sister and to kill the Emperor. The Emperor might have tried to turn Luke to the Dark Side...

The only reason we got Lando was because Lucas got grief for not having any black characters in ANH and for giving the only black actor the role of the voice of the major villain
he got further grief for having the first black character in SW potrayed as someone not to be trusted
i know it chilled out the pc brigade but i think Landos look is the only thing that looks dated in the whole of the OT

im talking about that moustache and those slacks

As for the character Lando was to die in the falcon at the end of Jedi but Lucas changed his mind because he thought it would be too downbeat

And he made Jackson the black excuse in the PT? 😉

Billy Dee Williams auditioned for the part of Han too.

Thats very cool.

and this guy

Han was also going to be a green alien so there you go
He went for whitey which is for the best as unfortunatley a multiracial relationship in a kids flick wouldnt have gone down so well in 1980

Hindsight would have corrected that and maybe we wouldn't have to listen to accusations of "racism" today.

Screw those accusations.

Yes, they are false, but tis easy to see where they comefrom, which is partially what disturbs me.

Political correctness.
