The American Dream ......What a joke!

Started by chillmeistergen3 pages

The whole idea of a nation possessing one dream is preposterous. Live your own life, the reason the American dream is to get a good job etc etc is that you then pay more taxes, and, therefore contribute to capitalism. The American dream is a manufactured and processed one, and merely an attempt to indoctrinate the whole country.

Yes, the idea of having a family, a good job, and your own home is merely government instituted propaganda so that they can control our lives.

Anyway, the American Dream just means being successful and having a family. It doesn't mean you're a doctor. It just means being happy and relatively satisfied.

Yeah but that kind of nonsensical ideology suggests that only having these things can bring happiness. It suggests there are winners and losers in life and only serves as a tool to keep the tax money rolling in. You can be perfectly happy without a good job and your own home. What happens if you fulfill this 'dream' and find out you aren't happy? That you would rather spend time flitting through different countries surviving on what you can? Are you no longer American?

You all have very good points. I think that the american dream can be anything you want it to be for yourself as long as you are relying on yourself to get it and not others. Such as those on welfare that don't need to be, they are costing those people who are working on their American Dream a lot of money.

Its wrong to assume that everyone on welfare is just some lazy nobody living off the system. Sure, a lot are, and I wish it didnt happen, but by no means would I ever take that systen away.

I think there are several major things wrong here.
First off, the typical "American Dream" seems to be, If you go to school, and work hard, you'll end up rich.
Which leads to the belief that anyone who is poor is lazy, and therefor should not get "Free handouts"
to which I respond, are you kidding me?
200 bucks a month? Not exactly the cushiest of support that is...
Its hard enough for a college graduate, with a good degree and experience to find a job, let alone a homeless person.
Also, don't complain about the size of you tax return check. I mean, why do you get more when your single, because you overpay your taxes in other places, you don't have dependants or other things, you do when your married.
The American dream is flawed, and stupid, but its not because of tax checks and welfare. Its an idealistic difference.
As someone, (i forget) here said once.
The American dream is the promise of Jam tommorow while forgetting the need for bread today.

Yes. That's what we're trying to say. If you don't have a house and kids, you're not an American.

Seriously, try not to be so ignorant. The American Dream obviously doesn't apply to all Americans, nor is it an actual dream. It refers to the fact that many people when they first came here saw America as a way to escape oppression and poverty in their host nations. It doesn't mean it's everyone's dream, or that that's what it takes to be happy. It's just a broad, general idea.

That place is gonna be around forever. Who the hell wants raw ass fish when compared to a Mcrib. damn, jesus obviously never thought about the convienace of fast food

When you can go to a super mega gas station at three in the morning and buy almost any kind of porno, aspirin, beer, doritos, candy and a fully cooked meal along with fuel to get the hell out of dodge after sleeping with a std ridden hooker at a seedy brothel. I think we are all living the American dream

Having a house and a family is not an American dream. Everyone everywhere wants those things, so it is likely that the American Dream is political and media spin to increase taxes, as Chillmeistergen said.

So the dream of escaping poverty and finding belonging is exclusive to America? By the looks of things that's exactly what America as a nation doesn't stand for, it's the land of the corporate giants. Who use poverty in third world countries to their gain. With a nation that was discovered 500 years ago, it's been ruined bloody quickly. Try to remember that native Americans lived there before it was discovered and they were quickly slaughtered or colonised, land of the free my arse.

(Damn. I hate when someone posts something I wish I had said.)

The above aside: my impression is that the American Dream is fast becoming an illusion to keep the masses happy while the Financial Elite continues to fatten up.

AFAIK, it seems to be a Tptmanno1 original.

I think the idea of an "American Dream" is being severaly limited by the first post in this thread. The short and sweet answer to that notion is to point out that the "American Dream" is up to the person chasing it. If it means a family and a nice house, that's the American Dream for that person. If the American Dream means being successful in buisness and making a million dollars after a lot of hard work, then that's the American Dream for that person.

And anyone who doesn't think that the "American Dream", as it's used in the first post, isn't a bullshit political ploy should re-examine their perception of how this country works.

To me the American dream is being rich. Meanign being wealthy, healthy and happy. Unfortunately most Americans will get the sh*tty end of the stick in their life. Only a few of us or naturally pick for that life. And if you haven't achieved it by the age of 30, then forget about it. Chances are you never will.

I wasn't aware Global Warming was some kind of evil monster who falls from the sky and "takes over" the earth, of course before that he'll kill all the fish just to mock us

Of course, Al Gore is a "prophet" so only he could have predicted such a thing right?

...?

come again?

This myth began with Horatio Alger anyway... good deeds and a good heart will lead to prosperity sort of stuff.

Don't criticize the woman as if you all are living exactly as you would like to do. Just being asses for no reason. She's just saying the country is full of propaganda. This is how they say do it:

Go to school, get a job, work 9 to 5, it's that simple! No it's not but that's what is fed to us by the rich.

The rich give the poor the paradigms to go by the keep them "under control" so that their reign my continue. A lot of people in the middle class are poor people. Someone who works two job @ minimum wage and works 50 hours for 40 weeks of the year will be middle class. That's not middle class, comfortable to me. Knowledge in application 2guns
