Kevin Durant vs Greg Oden

Started by Dr. Strangelove4 pages

Both will be great. I think it's premature to say who is better considering Oden had a broken hand for most of the year so we don't know what he is fully capable of. Personally, I am more impressed by Durant than Oden at this point. The last perimeter player that had as good a season as Durant was Carmelo and I think Durant was a better college player than Carmelo was. I just don't see how anyone will be able to stop Durant. He could easily become one of the top 10 players ever if he uses all of his talents.

Never that, but I simply critiqued his first year in college and went based off that, where he was the best player and put up the best numbers and won the MVP of college basketball and I do think he can play this way in the NBA. But the transition is different and harder for post players, which is another reason why I would pick Durant and build a team around him.

Yeah, you're overhyping. I never said that Durant had no talent. But to give him all the strengths of today's top perimeter players is overhyping. Seriously, hear yourself out. Shoot like Kobe, drive like Tmac, and dunk like Carter? No one has been able to score on multiple defenders or finish like kobe since Jordan. Carter is perhaps the best dunker of all time. Tmac is one of the premiere players of this game. And to you, Durant has all these tools? Yeah right. Like I said before, you're overhyping. There's no overhyping from me when I'm talking about Oden. All I've said is that the man has very good size and athleticism that can help improve his game. There's a lot more talented perimeter players than there are talented big men in the nba. That's why it would be more wise to build around Oden than Durant.

That is not over hyping, did you even read past the first line? I said I was critiquing his season in college and YES he had all those components I mentioned. Watch a Texas game and you will know what I am talking about. Now I didn't say he is better or even on the level of Kobe or Tmac but I said he plays like them and that is exactly what he does.

yes but if he was as good as u say he was why couldnt he carry his team to a championship like Greg Oden did with Ohio State

oden got to a championship did not win one, and oden had a better supporting cast than durant did.

Not when u think about it Oden had Conley Jr. Durant had Augustine Oden had Lewis Durant had Abrams would made 120 threes just this year so u tell me who had the better supporting cast neither they are very equal

oden did. He also had the advantage of playing with Connolly for 4 years prior to college.

true that but u give Durant Conley and Oden Augustin who would do better in a two on two????

i dont care about a 2 on 2 game to be honest it would mean nothing.

2 on 2 means nothing. And I'm sure if Texas could trade Augustin for Conley they would do it in a heart beat. Conley is amazing. If Augustin would have showed up and helped Durant out during the USC game, they would have won.

proably but Oden would dominate Durant in a one on one game and u know it. bcuz he is bigger stronger taller better rebounder

I didnt imply that you said he plays on their level, but you did give him all these capabilitites which is ridiculous. Yes, he's a very talented scorer but even you must realize who you're comparing him with. You basically gave him every perimeter players' strengths. That is overhyping, whether you meant to do it or not. You just admitted that he has all these "components". Kobe's shot? Carter's dunk? Smith's blocking ability? Let's just see what he's capable of doing in the nba before giving him all these characteristics.

ya but Oden is a very good defender way better than Durant so even if he wasnt as good of scorer that would nullify his ability to score

I said his game is like theirs, what don't you understand about that? Giving him these capabilities? The hell are you talking about? I am not drawing a super hero here I am critiquing his game, have you even watched him play before? I am just going to stop arguing with someone who doesn't have the ability to comprehend.

ya but Oden is better!!!!!!!!!!!

1 on 1 means nothing. Absolutley nothing at all. Oden could probably beat Lebron James 1 on 1 also, that doesn't mean Oden is better. That is why basketball is played 5 on 5.

1 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, 1 on 2 etc... Who gives a shit, it only matters with 5 on 5.

I'm sorry, but you say I was hyping him more than LeBron when you say:

"This is all you need to know, 6'9 small forward that can shoot like Kobe, drive like Tmac, finish like Kobe, block like Josh Smith, dunk like Carter, all the makings of being a superstar in the league."

That IS overhyping as teampac said. You didn't even say potential. Your criticism was very small considering the comparisons you made at the start of that post.

Anyway, the hype around Oden is the fact that there is a lack of big men these days. Dwight Howard is just about the only guy that will physically match with him in the league. Ten years ago, Oden would have just been another good big man that would have been mentioned following Shaq, Ewing, Robinson, and Olajuwon. But these days, there are not centers in the league such as them so Oden is likely to thrive. You (initially at least) made it sound like nobody will be able to stop Durant even though he plays one of the most prominent posititions in the current NBA.

Yeah, and I'm goin to stop arguing with someone who doesnt understand the term overhyping. You gave him capabilities or in your own words "components". You're not drawing a super hero but you are drawing the perfect basketball player with all these "components". Myth is right, you never even used the word potential. Rather, you directly gave Durant all these superstar capabilities.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who understands the term overhyping. And yes Oden is wanted so much today because there is a lack of talented centers in the league today. Why do you think all the analysts project him to be the 1st overall pick, regardless of Durant's stay in college or not.
