Superman didn't punch Despero in the issue where he killed him, to my recollection.
Batman also blew off his arm with some sort of 'Super batarang' (I forget what it was called, but it was a pretty weak bomb).
Plus, he got his arm ripped off by acid, or something, and got ripped through by some other blasts.
Plus, punches by Superman, and WW hurt him a lot, and Superman put a huge crack in his chest, it's just his regeneration that keeps him in the fights.
There's some more times when he was put down.
