So it was a dumb question, why should I answer a dumb question? Your question has the same answer as the ones I posted, if you can answer them then you have your answer.

He answered the questions just fine. 😉

So, why is it that a belief in one god is so relatively current historically speaking? The further back into history you research, the more gods you find. Most of human history consists of cultures that worshiped multiple gods. The idea of a single god is relatively current. If a single god created the entire universe, why is it that ancient cultures did not believe in a single god?

im gonna give this a shot...i really hate talking about this becuz it all feels so uncertain..but anyways

from my PERSONAL christian perspective.. GOD exists rite?(for the purpose of my point at least) but as Jesus said HE exists as a spirit, something not altogether tangible to us. (which sucks cuz it makes it so much harder to not sound crazy when you believe in HIS presence) but regardless of this, HE is there and we can feel HIM. GOD chose the jews as HIS people, and revealed HIMSELF to them in ways HE had not to other people groups before. (dont ask me why, this is just part of that enormous plan HE's got) so the jewish people knew HE was one massive GOD, but the others didnt. being rational human beings, they assumed things so complex as the world and the sky and the ocean and life and everything else had to be the handy work of several deitys, right? and this worked fine until the jews began spreading their influence, and then especially when the christian movement began.

you can call these jews and christians spreading their beliefs and putting down the polytheist cultures closeminded about religion or intolerant or whatever, but i see it as some proof of GOD. most all polytheism has quit being practiced in religions. and the 3 major world religions- christianity, judaism, and islam all originate from the same source and worship the same massive, single GOD. i believ that shows the possiblilty that the GOD i believ in exists and is working towards eventual unity of faiths....GOD has set eternity in the hearts of men.

That is what the bible says, but history tells a different story. The idea of a single god existed long before the Jews, and those who later became the Jewish people may have been influenced by this idea.

I think your referring to the Aten, an Egyptian deity comprised of Ra and Horus...However, it's not really widely accepted that there is any link between Atenism and Judaism...

Sorry, I didn't understand you first statement.

There are a lot of commonalities between Judaism, Christianity and Egyptian mythology.

Indeed, and your about to share them?

No, but there is a lot out there, and I don't have time to dig them up, so to speak. The first one that comes to mind is the Ark of the Convent. There was a box just like that with the kings image on top found in the tome of Tut.

IMHO hero worship gone amuck. I do not believe that Buddha was divine. He was just a man who realized something that every human can realize. I don't believe in the supernatural.

Ahhh interesting...don't you think the Collective Unconsciousness might have some role to play?

Yes, but the Collective Unconsciousness is not supernatural. 😉

I didn't say it was....

I meant don't you think that it would explain the similarities...and it would go back to the Egypt thing you were talking about, I wasn't taking issue with your views on Buddha.

There is a possibility that "genetic memory" maybe replaying successful information within the human race.

Akenaten was the pharaoh that professed the existence of the Aten. But the Aten was more than just a combination of Ra and Horus. He/She/It was the single god that was responsible for the authority and diversity previously assigned to the entire pantheon of Egyptian deities. And what so many historians do is dismiss the motivations behind Akenaten's actions as a means to consolidate power. But what's to say this was not the motivation behind the supposed visions and enlightenment of Abraham, who smashed the other idols and questioned his father as to the latter's belief in the deities?

Akenaten lived later than Abraham.

So point out where I mentioned chronology. I spoke only to intentions.

But, as you yourself should be aware, there's a matter of 200 years, more or less, to consider. Depending on the academic circles in which one might find themselves.

Akhenaten (1352-1336 BC). When did Abraham live?
