So, why is it that a belief in one god is so relatively current historically speaking? The further back into history you research, the more gods you find. Most of human history consists of cultures that worshiped multiple gods. The idea of a single god is relatively current. If a single god created the entire universe, why is it that ancient cultures did not believe in a single god?
im gonna give this a shot...i really hate talking about this becuz it all feels so uncertain..but anyways
from my PERSONAL christian perspective.. GOD exists rite?(for the purpose of my point at least) but as Jesus said HE exists as a spirit, something not altogether tangible to us. (which sucks cuz it makes it so much harder to not sound crazy when you believe in HIS presence) but regardless of this, HE is there and we can feel HIM. GOD chose the jews as HIS people, and revealed HIMSELF to them in ways HE had not to other people groups before. (dont ask me why, this is just part of that enormous plan HE's got) so the jewish people knew HE was one massive GOD, but the others didnt. being rational human beings, they assumed things so complex as the world and the sky and the ocean and life and everything else had to be the handy work of several deitys, right? and this worked fine until the jews began spreading their influence, and then especially when the christian movement began.
you can call these jews and christians spreading their beliefs and putting down the polytheist cultures closeminded about religion or intolerant or whatever, but i see it as some proof of GOD. most all polytheism has quit being practiced in religions. and the 3 major world religions- christianity, judaism, and islam all originate from the same source and worship the same massive, single GOD. i believ that shows the possiblilty that the GOD i believ in exists and is working towards eventual unity of faiths....GOD has set eternity in the hearts of men.
