Jesus Christ is the Way to the Father in Heaven. All other ways are false.

Jesus Christ is the Truth. People all over the world are looking for answers about the origin of life, why bad things happen, how to be secure, etc. Jesus Christ is the answer to all of these questions. His Word i.e. the Bible provides answers to all of life's questions.

Jesus Christ is the Life i.e. He gives eternal life to all who ask for it in faith, believing that He and only He is the giver of it. Eternal life is a Person. To have a relationship with the Person by faith is to receive the life that He embodies. This life is eternal because He is eternal.

Mental scarring as you put it is not the issue. The problem is that purgatory is a lie and should not be taught.
