thanks for the recommendation although i didn't find this particularly creepy or disturbing...the premise was good but the execution was poor

it had it's moments though...like the bit with hank going to recover the coins and other stuff from the oven

the building itself is a tremendous setting though

The Grudge? The bootleg version of "The Ring"? lol.

I'm sorry but in my opinion that's the worst horror movie i've ever seen in my life, and i'm a horror movie buff. There wasn't even any blood in it. Not a drop.

And good horror without blood is like a porn flik w/o sex.

But to answer your question, i don't think there's a #1 scariest movie. There a many #1 scariest movies though.

For example, the movie i'm watching is one of the scariest movies of all time. And that movie is 1985's "The Night of the Living Dead"

I think it's the best and scariest movie with the best score out of the entire saga and definitely scarier than 80% - 90% of all zombie movies that ever came out.

My take.

Night of The Living Dead was made in 1968...not 85.

There have been plenty of horror movies without blood in them. Just because they arent slasher or zombie films doesnt mean they arent horror.

I disagree with your "good horror without blood is like a porn without sex" statement. Just because there is no gore in some horror movies doesn't mean they aren't great horror movies.

Take the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre for example, almost every violent act in that movie takes places behind closed doors and the audience doesn't get to see it. Yet, it's one of the best horror movies ever made.

Good horror movies shouldn't have to rely on blood/gore to make them scary.

Blood is not always required for horror. TCm and Halloween were proof of that. Blood is more in line because of the torture porn generations take on horror.

there was also a film when i was very young that had an effect on me...cant remember the name but it was about vampires and someone who had been bitten went to their friends house and was floating at their window while knocking on it...that always freaked me out

Salem's Lot

Like Freeman said, you can get amazing horror films without lots of blood or any blood... stupid to think only gore makes a good horror film.

Night of The Living Dead was made in 1968...not 85.

There was a remake that came out then.

torture porn generations take on horror.

I wish people would stop using that crap term, Torture Porn, I despise it.

The first Night Of The Living Dead Remake came out in 1990. Not 1985. Unless there is a remake that eluded my notice.

85, 90 bla bla, it's still a remake he's probably going on about, and not the original. If he is on about the original, silly billy.

I like the term "Gore-porn" better.

Mild, Return of the Living Dead was 85.

The scariest movie ever made was "The Exorcist"

So much as thinking about the spider scene in The Beyond still makes my skin crawl, and I'm not afraid of spiders, per se.

That's just typical Fulci. "Why don't...wait, wait, I've got it. Why don't we....ready? Have spiders...stay with me...EAT his face...a-and then, bite out his eye and a bit of his tongue?", "Were you loved as a child?".

-AC

fulci was just gross. i loved him 🙂

jaden101, did you get the film? Did it make sense to you?

Spoiler:
Did you realize that Gordon had killed his wife and child?
That is what makes it so scary IMO. The fact that it has happened before and will happen again. It's pure evil.

Another two films that I think are truly scary and disturbing are Inside and May.

i put the pieces together after hearing the last voice on the tapes with it being the same as the voice Gordon hears at the start...it wasn't exactly complex

i just thought the setting itself would've lent itself to something far more potent than what was delivered

I usually don't get scared with movies easily, but the only movie that gave me nightmares was Event Horizon. I kept dreaming of the part when the crew saw the video of what happened to the previous crew. That just messed with me for a while. I really don't know why though.

The only movie that ever scared me was the Excorcist...when I first saw it back in the 70s

👆 I can't even watch that movie anymore i still have nightmares about zelda.

I saw Nightmare City a few years back. And it gave me a genuine sense a creepiness. I was looking out the window and everything.

Demons freaked me out because of the sheer in your face violent nature of the infected.

Both similar films. I think the best horror films are the ones that are shot in such a way that you are amongst the survivors. Not 1st person but enough to fell you're there.
And for those characters to go through a situation where suicide may be a resonable decision rather than face the threat.
Because facing the threat alive can result in a fate worse than death.

City of the Living Dead also had a creepy looming scary threat. Fulci rules.

I have seen a really interesting new documentary about the serial killers Burke and Hare, and would recommend it for anyone interested in serial killers and true crime in general –Burke and Hare the Body Merchants.
