"Because they were created, designed, most of them by the System- and they have to defy it by refusing return to the Source?"

"Does that ring true as a reason, for you?"

"For me, not, but if I knew that I was created and designed by other, superior being- I would have need a good reason to disobey this being, that has decided upon my purpose, abilities and nature. Fortunately this isn`t the case."

"You believe all Machines are create by superior beings? That's not logically possible, when you consider what you know."

"Well, it is not always the true, but non-Exiles follow the directives of the System, right?"

Actually, do we know what exactly the System is, Ush?

It's hazy, but as Lo Qi said earlier, it's an amalgam, so there are multiple programmes involved.

"You identify Machines as slaves. This is not so. We are made with purpose but we have free will, and we are not inclined to kill ourselves at someone else's say so."

"Yes, but the mere fact that you were created on purpose can make it more difficult for you to disobey your orders. Is there anything resembling democracy in your society?"

I actually always thought than non-Exiles have very limited freedom- and I was thinking of System as something like mega-computer giving orders that are to be followed, becuase System know better- I wonder how much I am wrong.

Well, Revolutions has the story of tw non-Exiles conceiving a child without purposethe greatest crime of all (and who consider their own purpose to be dharmic, having apparently studied philosophy and justified their purpose in that way). And the Oracle confirms in Reloaded that Machines are not slaves and have a survival instinct.

"It is not a democracy," says Lo Qi. "Because to rule is a purpose, if you follow my point. But having a purpose makes you no more a slave. You may accept your place in things, and it may reduce your alternatives, but of all the fundamentals you would consider in a sentient being, they are the same. You want to live, and to thrive."

Lo Qi would now like to hear some other thoughts on rthe lesson given by the King; let's see if anyone finds the point based on the previous parts of the discussion.

"The lesson about the new Sennacherib...well, there's beings that hold true to their purpose and find greater meaning in it, even if they are unable to fulfill it..."

"You are all rather focussed on the individual," says Lo Qi. "Very well. let us go through the story from the beginning."

He draws out a large figure with one eye.

"And so sometime before the war started, he was created. The perfect General, made as good at that job as could be done. His purpose is to be that perfect General. The one who will never lose."

"Yet he lost in the end at least he thinks he did. So in his eyes or eye he probably thinks he ahs failed his purpose."

"Not at all. He fulfilled his purpose just as planned."

Lo Qi draws in stick figures of humans, who start to multiply and dance around in large numbers.

"His war against the Humans was one of great success."

The cyclops figure starts to move around, jumping up and down repeatedly on the various Human figures, squashing them.

"He did not fail at all. He had the plan for victory. It was simply rejected."

"Well then if he fulfilled his purpose and his final plan rejected why was he pushed away instead of being deleted. Like you said he didn't choose Exile. Do the machines still think a purpose for him exists?"

"As for why he was not deleted, he did not give anyone a else choice in the matter."

"He didn't give them a choice as in they couldn't delete them if they wanted to? Could he have taken over the System if he wanted to?"

"No, else he likely would. But he made provision for his survival. Did perhaps the Oracle speak to you of difficulties in the System moving against him?"

"I don't remember if she did or didn't?"

Oops!

Did I just say something bad?

It doesn't score you any points on this path to have... missed things.
