I do not believe that the Bible is my idol. I have already described to you what an idol is.

Main Entry: idol
Pronunciation: 'I-d&l
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French idle, from Late Latin idolum, from Greek eidOlon image, idol; akin to Greek eidos form -- more at IDYLL
1 : a representation or symbol of an object of worship
; broadly : a false god

The Bible or a cross are not idols. An idol is a simulacrum or religious statue or effigy of a deity. Jesus is not a representation or image of something or someone, He is a true, living Person.

The Bible is not the "object" of worship or a "false god." So, the Bible does not fit that description nor yours no matter how much regard that I have for my Heavenly Father's Word.

It does not matter what you think an idol is. What matters is the control that an idol has over your life. Here is a test. Take an old ratty bible and safely burn it. If you can, then I am wrong, but if you cannot, then I am right.

My conscious, steadfast refusal to burn a Bible has nothing to do with its control (or lack thereof) over my life. It has to do with my regard for God's Word as recorded in the Bible. The Bible is God's Book and it should be read, studied, meditated on, spoken, obeyed, practiced, abided by, kept, upheld, referenced--as well as respected above all other books. Your rationale (that if I cannot burn a Bible then it controls my life) is nonsensical.

You forgot masturbated to and copy and pasted from religionish websites.

Shaky, he can't burn a book he doesn't own.

Then I am right, the bible is your idol.

Your rationale is nonsensical Shakyamunison. Your rationale is as absurd as saying that since I cannot burn a cat then that cat has control over me and it is my idol.

He's saying that you worship the Bible, therefore it's your idol.

I clearly understand what Shakyamunison is saying, but what he is saying is nonsensical. I have already explained in prior posts why what he states is nonsensical.

So you worship the Bible because you believe it to be the word of God. That probably doesn't count as an idol, I'm not sure.

I think that you are confused lord xyz. I worship Jesus not the Bible. What makes you think that I worship a Book instead of the Person that the Book talks about?

"It has to do with my regard for God's Word as recorded in the Bible. The Bible is God's Book and it should be read, studied, meditated on, spoken, obeyed, practiced, abided by, kept, upheld, referenced--as well as respected above all other books." This, to me, suggests you worship the Bible.

Oh, semantically speaking. Well what then is your definition of worship? Is it the same as Merriam-Webster's? Because according to them I worship the Bible. But I know better. Respect and admiration for a thing is not worship.

You are a hypocrite.

You have argued the dictionary to be authoritative when it suits your argument.

You have argued otherwise with regards to the virgin Mary, various saints, and Buddha.

What Adam said.

The bottom is line I do not believe that I worship the Bible (respect and admiration is not worship). Furthermore, I affirm the dictionary's definition of the word worship, but you see the word worship has several different shades of meaning not just one.

I am not the one referring to Mary as the "Mother of God," or the "Queen of Heaven." I certainly do no pray to her or ask her to do anything for me.

No, the bottom line is that you are a hypocrite; you support the dictionary being authoritative in instances in which it suits your argument, but not in instances in which it does not, e.g. according to Merriam Webster's, you worship The Bible.

According to your definition of worship, this does not qualify.

I have already acknowledged that. What is your point? There is more than one shade of meaning for the word worship.

According to your definition of worship, this does not qualify.

What does not qualify?

My point is that you are a hypocrite. I am glad that you acknowledge it.
