I argee it does make you want to do it more.Again it is taking away our freedom of speech. Why should the goverment be able to do this? This law better not pass or I am moving out of the country.jm

Because people could be attacked and killed and this is one time where we can try and do something to prevent a crime instead of just telling the victims and their families how sorry we are it happened. The only people who should have a problem with hate speech laws are ones who intend to spread it.

the only people who have to worry about a police state are criminals 😛

It's not the same thing, in order to have something new declared as hate speech, you actually have to show how it damages society. It's not like they pick names out of a hat.

I am not saying people should not be going around kililng anyone gays or not.But to stop someone from saying slangs about gays should not get arrested because of it.
We aready have a law againist kililng other people.Like anyone follows that law or not.It should not be about them but everyone suffers.jm

Yes but this is a chance to be proactive and stop crime instead of just solving them. If this does reduce hate crimes, that frees up the police to do more in other areas.

If any it would make crimes worst.Like I said not everyone followes the rules look at the major citys around the state or countrys!Crime rate is pretty high in Philly and that is not even getting any better but worst.
Another reason why this hate crime thing is not going to work and that it would not go through.jm

And when they don't follow the rules we like to be able to lock them up. We still have murders, does that mean it shouldn't be illegal because people still do it? If nobody broke the rule we wouldn't have the rule to begin with.

True but are the police really going to around locking up anyone who says anything about gays?Or says I don't like it or whatever?I mean come on!
That is the most stupidest thing I ever heard of.Yes I know stupidest is not a word!jm

When they start to preach to others their hate, then yes they most certainly should.

What bussiness is it to anyone if someone does that?If it has something to do with a church then it stays in the church. Not alot of people are for it to begin with.
I am one of those people.I don't say anything to anyone about it inless it comes up in what we are talking about. But to arrest someone that does happen to be talking about it is just plain stupid like I said.
Beside the police are not going to find anyone who will be staying it if it said somewhere or whatever.
They can't be everywhere at once. How would you like to be in jail and someone ask you what you are in for and you say oh I said that gays are (beep) would it that be so stupidly funny?I think so!Got to get some sleep.jm

Well learn to think about someone besides yourself and your beliefs.

It's their business because it can help prevent people from getting hurt. You can have all the small minded, ignorant, bigoted thoughts you want, but when you preach them openly, your encouraging it onto others who may get hurt people because of it. Their right to safety is more important then your right to preach hate.

I would never be in jail because of that. I'm not one of those kinds of people. I don't teach hate.

No one is going to loose any freedoms of speech, least of all religious hate mongers.

It will never be illegal to call homosexuality morally wrong. If anyone on this board thinks that will be the case, you've bought into the religious right's lies.

Yeah, but one that is not certain to help in any way....while it is certain to let people state their opinion less.

No one teachs to hate. And I am thinking of others. Those people who just say what they believe in does not deserve to be put in jail for what you are saying sprending hate.
Again this is a free country to say what we want. There is no law or on the bills of right does it say anything about hate.JM

That first sentence blew your credibility all to hell. Yes they do teach to hate. They teach that gay people are an abomination in their eyes. And no, your not thinking of others, your just thinking of people who happen to share your beliefs.

You can still be a free country and have hate speech laws, again Canada has shown that.

And Bardock, it has helped in Canada, and it could help int he US, despite people like Ann Coulter jr there.

Let's not simplify it to just gays.

No. If you want to engage a sock in a discussion about a peripheral issue, do it in another thread.
