I just got done listening to that, on your recommendation. its such a catchy album. fakin' amnesia hey hey! waking the wind is pretty good too.

i thought you'd be all over a spectrum of infinite scale, man. [QUOTE=8899568]

catchy indeed, but there's some genuine insight as well. "catch that spark" is pure naivete romance, and "sleepyhead" describes my depression disturbingly well. and i LOVE the beginning on "americans in rome"...the slow burning bass synth drum intro, into the perfectly timed post punk flavored refrain... droolio. that's even discounting the perfect pop of tracks 1-5, as well as the twee brilliance of the second hidden track (bunny, i'd like to take a secret trip--to see if my heart still skips everytime you're around).

you know i love the progressive surf revival, but i got to give credit where credit's due.

Progressive...surf.

It's come to this.

i imagine if you'd actually heard 'man...or astro-man?' (more specifically infinite/finite scale) it would make a lot more sense.

You do imagine incorrectly, then.

Fave '00 album...

so you are saying that after listening to finite/infinite scale, you fail to understand how the descriptors "progressive" and "surf" apply?

I didn't say that, I said "Progressive Surf" as a genre label is rather lame.

-AC

being that i was specifically referencing man...or astro-man?, what's the problem?

What do you mean? I just told you.

-AC

excellent. i was worried that calling a band that is both progressive and surf-rock oriented "progressive surf" was taboo...looks like my suspicions were correct. thanks, AC!

Yes, surf-rock is a stupid label to me.

Good one.

""The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place"-- Explosions in the sky. Probably my most favorite album for the 2000's (thus far) because it only has 5 songs, therefore less recording time to fill. Strongly recommend this for people who like Mogwai, the Red Sparowes, Russian Circles, Sigur Ros, stuff like that.

"surf Rock" is a stupid label? WHAT? I can understand why you would say "Progressive surf" is sorta lame... Surf rock is a pretty defined and easily recognized genre of rock, it deserves it's own sub-genre. By the way I love surf music, Man or Astro-man is one of my fav bands in the new surf wave, The Penetrators kick a$$ and so do the Phantom Surfers, oh yeah The Mermen are awesome.

What does that even mean?

That means that this album only has 5 songs, so less room for error. At lot of the time major record companies have a quota for the artist to meet, say Mr. Executive wants 10 songs, the artist only wrote 8 for the album. Well then the artist throws out 2 SHITTY SONGS to "Fill" out the record. Get it?
