Your least favourite nation?

But you certainly enjoy the year off your wife has.

I'd also enjoy it if Bill Gates had to give me $1,000, but that doesn't make it right.

I thought nations were about COLLECTIVE identity...the idea that we have a stake in eachother.

We do. But not to that point.

Yeah, because sharing wealth and handouts are equatable...

If you can't give pregnant women and newborns a break, thats pretty low.

Me being forced to pay for you to take a year off of work because you got pregnant is not my idea of freedom.

No, but taxes covers everything. So if you get sick, I have to pay for it through my taxes. And yes, I do it gladly. And it's not only the mother who gets the benefits, the father too. We don't use the health care system etc all at the same time, but initially we all have to go to the hospital or attend school sooner or later.

You can't get Pork in Islamic countries. It's extremely hard to get in Turkey, and that's becoming largely secular. It's also virtually impossible to get a bath in Islamic countries, only showers.

I've been in Turkey twice. It was not a problem to get pork, just so you know.(..)

That being said, I'm glad that my education is paid for through my taxes. I'm glad that I don't have to pay for college or anything like that. And it's funny, because even 'the rich' send their children to public school and most of them do pay their taxes. One of the richest men in Norway said that he didn't mind paying taxes. Simply because he also saw the benefits of that. And it's not like taxes are that high either.

I agree that there must be a line, but it can certainly be nice of a society to take care odf it's members, to increase the security of everyone. Basically like a war in Iraq...just working.

It depends where you go, if you go to commercial areas it won't be a problem. My parents own 7 houses there because they run a property rental business, specialising in unspoilt Turkey. I've been there about 20 times and pork is only available in the larger towns or cities. The only real supermarkets there that sell it are Gima ones.

There are certain parts of the US I like...
I love the Southern part of the country because it is so laid back..THE BEST PART OF THE COUNTRY
Things i do not like are California with its rude people...the midwest has the tornadoes...and so on

I do not like the government trying to control everything possible out there in the world, forcing a nation into war, killing people for no just cause
See I live in the US, I would not live anywhere else...Of course there are other countries out there with better policies and all but that is just my opinion

Well, I've been travelling both in the smaller villages and in the big towns..

Well Antalya and Marmaris are very developed compared to most Turkey, along with Izmir, the Bodrum Peninsula, Istanbul, Ankara etc.
They do sell a version of bacon in some less touristy parts of Turkey, but it isn't actually pork, it's made from beef, just like the average sausage available in Turkey. If you were to stay in Gumusluk for example, there is no way you'd be able to get any pork product.

Yes, I know that very well, that's why we rented a car and drove around, into the villages etc outside of the big towns.

Then I'm rather sure you did not eat pork products. Out of interest, what villages did you visit? As places like Dalyan cannot really be described as a village, and I'm just wandering whether they were more like there.

I didn't say I was though. Only that we found pork products other places. I don't even like pork, I only know because my father likes it. I can't remember where we drove exactly, since I was 10 the first time and 14 the second time. I just remember it was like driving into a whole different world. It was fascinating and a sort of a wake-up call. The people were very kind and friendly, but it was kind of a shock to see their lack of wealth, compared to the city and western standers. Even so, I liked it there. It was nothing compared to Morocco (poverty and so on I mean) though, when I was there some years back, but very interesting.

Fair enough.

Yeah you're right it can be a wake up call seeing the standard of living, yet the happiness of the people there. I know what you mean about Morocco as well, that was horrible for me to see in terms of poverty. Delhi was even worse and Bali nearly as bad.

Why does everyone bash the states so much? I mean the states is alright, its the US government that is all nuts, but the people are generally cool and they are my neighbouring nation, gotta show some respect.

Why was Canada not included on that list? Oh...everyone loves us right??? 😛

Yeah why isnt Mexico on the list too...
I know a lot of Americans that do not like Mexico
I am netural to the subject

I think its wierd that Turkey is a secular republic, because it has the star and crescent emblazoned on its flag.

So do I, man.

Then again, we're both from Phoenix, so we both hear it all the time. I hear it mostly from old rich White people who live in Sun City and Awatuki.

Yes, I know what you mean. We were guided by locals into the small villages, and I have to admit I have never seen anything like it in my entire life. And yet people smiled and were happy. I guess that's one of the reasons why I got engaged in my political work. I was able to join a group who made a manifesto about the hidden conflicts through out the world. It was a very exciting job. As I've got family on Haiti (they're originally from Norway and the US though), I was able to focus on the problems there. It's appalling really, hope I can do more in the future. I dream of one day visiting these areas, like many of my friends have already done (most of them do the same political work like me). Last summer I was in Spain on this political festival, and that was truly amazing. There were over 10 000 people from all over the world (Asia, Europe, North- and South-America, Africa, the Middle East etc) - telling their stories. That's something I'll always remember.
