I think its wierd that Turkey is a secular republic, because it has the star and crescent emblazoned on its flag.So do I, man.
Then again, we're both from Phoenix, so we both hear it all the time. I hear it mostly from old rich White people who live in Sun City and Awatuki.
The flag has nothing to do with religious motives.. It may have been created because of it, but right now it's just the historical flag of Turkey. There are plenty of other country's out there, secular country's that have crosses or references to God on their flag, or their coin or whatever. Just look at the US, doesn't it say something about God on the dollar bill?
Actually I believe I once read that the Turkish flag or at the time the Ottoman flag was the reason the star and the crescent became religious signs, could be wrong here but still point remains religious symbols on important national items don't automatically make the country a religious state.
