Storm...Phoenix Level? NOPE.
Since I have no interest in spamming the Storm Respect Thread anymore, we can continue the discussion here.
So, right now, all that the "Storm is Phoenix" defenders have is a non-canon interview from 1979 discussing comics that were retconned years after that and where Storm was compared to Jean Grey/Phoenix as she was then. This was also just a single writer's opinion.
What the others "Storm is NOT Phoenix level" defenders have, are the thousands of comics where Storm has never been portrayed as even close to Phoenix in canon, and all the other writer's opinions about Phoenix's power. They have about five million times more canon proof.
So, I ask for the defenders to post a canon, in-comic proof that Storm is as powerful as Phoenix. As far as I can recall, only canon proof is accepted in this forum as evidence in debates and when discussing power levels.
Example of this: A writer states that his character is Galactus level in an interview. This character never shows that kind of power in comics.
Conclusion: This character is not that level. There is no evidence of the character ever being that level.
Seems simple to understand? Not for the ones who think that Storm is that level.
Anything that isn't canon isn't proof.
The Claremont interview is
A) VASTLY outdated,
B) The comics that are discussed in it were retconned long time ago.
C) The interview is set in 1979, and Claremont was CLEARLY discussing Phoenix's power level as it was THEN, as he was constantly speaking in PRESENT tense. Dark Phoenix Saga was written months after that. Second to creator thing? Nearly a full year after that. Only at Dark Phoenix level she realized her full power.
When she was at the green suit mode, she had limits, as written by Claremont himself. She exhausted. Her power ran out. Claremont constantly hammered the point that green-suited one was not as powerful as no-holds barred Dark Phoenix, and this was the version he referred in the interview. He wasn’t discussing about future, but PRESENT. That is not speculation of Claremont’s intentions, unlike.
D) It appears in other medium then official comic continuity. It’s not CANON. It’s not VALID PROOF.
--------------------------
But lets get crazy. Let’s get all out and declare it canon. Storm would still not be equal. Why is this? Well, let’s go to the interview.
Somebody has obviously not been reading the it close enough. This quote caught my eye.
Chris Claremont: “No. In equal terms of raw power, they're approximately equal.”
Sounds cool for Storm fans? Not for long.
”Jean can maintain a higher burst...she can peak higher than Storm”
Which means that her power is at HIGHER level, even at this weak incarnation. As stated by CLAREMONT HIMSELF. No way to dance around it, Jean’s power is higher. It continues though, and we find the explanation why Claremont thinks that they are equal.
“But she can't hold it for long.”
This means that, although her power is at higher level then Storm…she can’t have this higher power for long.
Why is this?
Because GREEN SUITED PHOENIX HAD A LIMIT IN HOW LONG SHE COULD PEAK!
Here are few images, from year 1977-1980. They show Phoenix reaching her limit MULTIPLE times. It HAMMERS the point in that she had limits, and could not use her powers as much as she wanted.

There were psychic blocks created by Xavier, and her human spirit that limited her among other things. What is the main point though, was that she had limits.
Guess what? When she was DARK Phoenix, these limits where REMOVED, enabling her to maintain the burst forever. Dark Phoenix is LIMITLESS. She doesn’t have any trouble using her powers to the fullest. And White Room Phoenix? Let’s just say that she has never heard the word “limit”, seeing as she manipulated a UNIVERSE with same ease as normal people breathe.
Here to show what Phoenix can do and what she is without any limits upon her. Provided by GalacticStorm.

The GREEN-SUITED Phoenix, the one that Claremont REFERS TO, had a LIMIT, and that is the ONLY REASON Storm can ever be compared to her.
So, in a nutshell, what would the Interview prove even if it was canon? Nothing else then Storm can only equal an Phoenix whose power is vastly limited, and EVEN THEN Phoenix can peak higher.
You can’t dance around it. You can’t change it. Claremont clearly uses the present tense, talks about Jean Grey and Phoenix (without the dark), and CLEARLY mentions that she is limited in her use of power.
So how about you Storm fanboys just suck it up and admit that your last shred of hope has just been burned in the fire of the Phoenix Force and accept that you are WRONG?
