Effects...just "icing" on the cake? (or) not comparable to playing Bach?

It was a joke. And if you didn't get it you apparently don't know a certain part of Metallica history involving Hammet and his pedals.

Oh, umkay. You're right, never Metallica followed closely. What's the joke pertain to? I'd like to know, it's funny, yes?

Well it will most certainly be ruined by explaining it. But basically when Hetfield wrote a song he'd hide Kirk Hammett's pedal from him and ask him to write a solo for the song. So, Hammett started bringing backup pedals (companies gave them to him like candy) because he wouldn't (maybe couldn't) write a solo without one. Hence, every Hammett solo is sounds very similar because he used the wah-wah excessively. Hammett quote of day is "The wah-wah is an extension of my personality".

Also, on the topic, you CAN right towards the use of a certain pedal. My guitarist has about eight effects pedals on his board for live and he likes to use all of them, so he does occassionally write solos and riffs towards some of his less often used ones.

Won't argue with you there. I agree. What I'm saying is that somebody was saying you can write music for a pedal. There's a difference.

As 2D said and as I have said before, many times, there's a difference between writing a guitar piece, FOR a guitar, with a pedal effect in mind, and actually writing music WITH a pedal, which is impossible, as it's not a musical instrument.

Seems like he really starting going heavy on the wah-wah around the black album timeframe.

Yah, worse than normal. That said, I like Hammett.

I don't like Hammet. He's using effects to cover up the fact that he isn't at all that great. You can't hear if he plays a false note or whatever he does when all is covered in wah.

He IS a very good guitarist. He's overrated, but he is talented. A lot of players get sloppy after playing on the electric too long, that's why it's important to practice acoustic or clean.

COOOL! MY THREAD GOT BUMPED!

Right then…

I’ve given this a week, and I’m sick of waiting for the KMC administrator to deal with this stuff…the dude is NEVER around. So I'll say my parting comments, and I'm gone.

So just for the record…the laaaaame-ass reasons I’ve actually gotten banned are…

a) I “threatened” somebody who doesn’t even have a moderator tag under her name…

and

b) I re-registered to get a hold of the “actual” moderator and AC to talk to them about how ridiculous it was I got banned without even a warning, and then I got banned again for being a “sock”…(something I didn’t know I couldn’t do until I got accused if “socking”)

Wow…how lame.

Whatever…everything happens for a reason I guess

I’ll leave you lot with 3 things though…

- You can thank me for AC’s improved and toned-down manner of late following this whole ordeal…(seems he’s realized how unpleasant things can get for him by constantly calling people idiots, morons, or acting like a jerk).

- I did NOT like about AC being referred to by moderators as “Alpha Troll”…I mean…does that even sound that unbelievable?

and finally and most importantly

- There’s a good lot of you here that really, really need to change the conventional ways you think about music. Basically, because I offer stuff that challenges your very foundations of how you like to think about things (and demands honesty with yourselves) I tend to get ganged up on. That’s pretty sad I think.

All in all, there’s just wayyyy too many people in this place that really don’t have much of an idea about the ins and outs of music I‘m afraid to say…(and the fact that a lot of them tend to actually fall for the pseudo-intellectual-sounding blabber that AC churns out is FULL evidence for this…amazing).

Seacrest out!

Oops. I spoke too soon…looks like he’s back to his old ways after all.

What a guy…back to calling people idiots and openly posting PMs people send him…he’s really reached a new low. Beware.

So long then!

Edit: Backfire…you can kill my account now...Cheers.

Oops again. Type-o...

I meant I did not "lie" about AC being referred...

...just to be clear...because I didn't.

Peace!

(and lily allen rules!)

What a sad moron.
