I disagree. Samus is also a buzzsaw in melee thanks to the screw attack.
Samus can beat him, plenty of guys have the power to beat him, i just don't buy that Samus has better defense. Ryu has the better defense imo, and that's what counts for me.
He's also just quicker on the trigger, way too sharp in the reflexes department.
Samus would be tops in an aerial fight though.
What do you mean by defense? Samus is the one in armor here. Every time she does a flip she is enveloped in a energy field that destroys things that come into contact with her, that strikes me as a very useful ability to have in melee.
Samus is just as fast as Ryu and given the fact that she jump hundreds of feet (even straight up) from a standing start, she can easily control the distance between Ryu and herself. It's not as if melee is her first choice, after all.
Not really seeing it yet.
Even if melee is Ryu's specialty, what can he really do to Samus with it? Someone posted a video of Ryu cutting through steel, but that's not really going to be enough against Samus. The Metroid universe has wasps that can do that, so I'd need to see something else before I'm convinced he can damage her at all.
Samus does it with her bare hands, no suit, and no "Ninjazenjutsu." Along a single wall.
Her armor would be vulnerable to Spirit power, ninpo and the can-slice-an-atom-type physical properties of the dragon sword. He'll wear out her shields and go for the ko after -since he wouldn't obviously kill a fellow hero.
She can and does regularly fight supernatural opponents such as ghosts. Her armor has resisted demonic possession attempts. Where does the 'slice an atom' quote come from?

Lately? Phantoon has been a ghost since Super Metroid, and Mother Brain has had telepathy since then as well. Supernatural elements are not new to the series, and the single wall jump has been possible since Super as well.
Yes, but when it was indicated that she regularly fights supernatural creatures, this sounded kind of odd to me. But then I really only enjoyed everything up until Super Metroid and stopped playing about then.
Ryu's game is harder, that's about all he has. Won't really help him here.
Obviously. Were you aware that I was joking, or did you think I was some kind of unabashed Ryu fanboy? If so:
