but he's dead... (still)

but he could be brought back... remember barbossa? 😛

Which is why I don't hold with the idea that Will's curse is unbreakable or that you must stab the heart to take the captain's place. In the world of pirates, death is a malleable state and curses can be broken. It makes no sense to assume that everyone but Will could have their curse broken or be brought back from the dead.

Also, we never hear that Will's heart must be stabbed in order for a new captain to take his place. All we hear is that in order to be rid of Jones, who would never step away from being captain, was that you had to stab his heart and take his place. Jones assumed because he had no end to his curse (or that he didn't try to have an end to it) that no one else would be free.

The rules change because of Will. The agreement to have one day ashore and ten years at sea was between Calypso and Davy Jones, not between Will and Calypso. He is charged with ferrying the dead for ten years, but he gets a green flash at the end of that term of service. In all likelihood, the curse is over for him because he doesn't need the green flash for him to step on land. The green flash is only for souls returning to this world, and because of Jack, we have to assume that it's for a soul to return permamently to life. Otherwise Jack is just sort of an undead thing walking around, right?

Greenflash = life. 😄 But if you like the idea of someone having to kill Will, by all means, go for it. 😉

I vote your camp Miz Surreal44--no yucky stabbage pleaseeek2--curses, what a mortal witch they are. And the rules of supernatural are even more confusing. Like the anti black spot dance that Gibbs and the others did when they were made aware of Jack's black spot.

RealDealWill works hard, plays fair and I have to believe with all heart and part gizzard, that he clears the hurdle on day 3652 and is good to go for the next 50 or so years.

I know... everyone should get to drink from the FOY, and they'll live forever and be stuck with one another and all that...

"I told you we shouldn't have drank from it!"
"It's 300 years too late!"
*crash*
"What was that?!"
"Will! Help me out here! Fanboys!"
"I can't go out.. you know fan girls are after me!"
"Me either! Sorry darling, you have ta get out of this one yourself..."

Woohoo!

lol. I hope that Liz does drink from the fountain of youth... I would be so sad if she died...

If Will and Elizabeth could choose, I think they'd want to die. I don't think they would want to live forever. Hopefully they get the chance to make such a decision together. 🙂

Doesn't everyone want to die? I'm 14 and I'd like a few more years but by the time you're old and frail I'd rather be dead then have dementia or bound to a zimmer.

if you never got sick and lived in a good world you would want to live forever 🙂

not if all your friends died. (BTW we're talking about the 18th century 60 was ancient)

I'm closer than y'all to the choice and I vote I get to go first becos I don't particularly want to be in a world, no matter how wonderful, if it doesn't have my brother, sister, and best friend in it. That my parents will pass distresses me, but it's more natural. I have had my students pass away from car wrecks, overdoses, bad choices and it kills my soul a little bit each time. My "babies" shouldn't beat me to the other side. You could see that in Johnny Depp's face and demeanor when he spoke about his baby girl being ill almost to death. He had seen the thin line that holds us here and he seemed to me to be experiencing that wonderful fragility of life. We all just need to do what my little old birding buddy said, he promised me he'd keep on living til he couldn't anymore (he was 74 when he died). He was a good and excellent friend.

yeah, but if she drinks the fountain of youth when she's 20, she'll be healthy and happy forever... immortality means you can't get sick or hurt... and if Will's immortal forever, she'd want to be immortal too, then she could stay with him...

I'm sure she would give some of it to her son! That would be stupid if she didn't.

I'm with you, Tex. I really don't like the idea of someone being immortal. People are meant to die, and as a Christian, living as long as you can still doesn't compare to finally dying and being at peace. I couldn't imagine Will and Liz and even their son being immortal and watching any friends they make grow old and die. I'm sure at one point Liz will want to see her parents again.

'lo Miz WilloftheWisp, I had briefly forgotten that part of the whole dance. I really do look forward to seeing my grandmother and my granddaddy whittling--he could whistle so pretty.

I think about that movie, Highlander, and how sad he was when his sweet little Scottish wife passed away and how grateful he was when he was finally mortal again.

I believe that there are some things that are meant to be temporal, of the moment, or else we would cease to value them as they are valued. Life is so very precious becos it is a gift of now.

But then she'd have to watch her son die which is just wrong. And the 10 years between seeing Will would be very painful indeed. I presume that Will will get someone to kill him after Elizabeth dies so as he isn't left alone after his son dies.

That's a big part of why I'm not a fan of the ending. It's more than being a sparrabether. It brings our heroes so close to literal immortality, when the truth is, we love seeing their adventures because they're able to die, yet are escaping death. I don't think it's fair even if the curse ends after 10 years for Will or anyone to have immortality. Supernatural powers, fine, but not immortality.

Okay, I'm on the tailend of this tale--when was immortality offered anyway? I know that Davy Jones fouled himself up or was fouled up depending on how one reads that--I just thought that the deal with Jones was a postponement of death, like the long sleep in Sleeping Beauty. Jones asked each man Do you fear death? to give them an opportunity to hold off the inevitable--that's all. Nobody rides for free. Immortality, nah, no my ball of wax--Will, postponed and reborn (2nd chance)(service on the Dutchman possibly life after death experience?), Elisabeth and child definitely still under laws of life as well. Did I really miss the immortality rift? Sweet beans, ya see a movie 3 times a day for a couple of months and you think you know it... 🙄

Now in a totally silly spin--please go see this incredible little vid by this person who is able to see things in a most unique way and there is a huge scoop of humor.

it's a hoot and a half--the ending is perf and there are several spots where Jack appears to be singing so fine.

Will is definatley immortal because his heart was cut out, as for everyone else it's all a bit hazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy....

I agree with the no immortality thing willo and tex...even if you could live in a perefect world wouldn't you get bored after 300 years? Isn't half the fun of living the fact that we know we gotta make use of every minute because we'll die???

I mean I agree after reading some things about the Flying Dutchman(the opera) and the fact that T&T left it to the audience to decide Will's fate, that the curse can be broken (after all there's ALWAYS a loophole in the pirate movies) and that WIll probably DID change the rules.

He obviously hasn't turned to a squid by the end of this so he's done his job and shouldn't be compared with Davy who obviously wasn't doing so.

But I'm afraid I disagree that the green flash means 'life'...I think it means a soul crossing between two worlds. Because if it meant life...it would be pointless to include a green flash when Will sets off on the FD.
I think it showed Will going to world of the dead in that particular situation and the green flash in the end DID mean Will coming back to the world of living but I wouldn't say that the green flash strictly means coming back to life...that's just my opinion.
