celebrities used to be celebrities because they got famous for doing things, whether it be sporting achievements, acting in big roles, etc.
Nowadays you just have to be related to someone or shag someone who is famous to get you own bandwagon.
And its been made even worse by these "big brother" reality shows, where lets face it all those who apply for it just do so to get seen and see the oppertunity of becomming famous.

THe other on tv I saw like a million paparrazi cars following the squad-car she was in, as if she's a foreign dignitary.

Let's face it, without celebrity gossip and stories about scandal, America wouldn't be half the country it is now. Boring people need other's lives to make them happy. Inferiority complex and whatnot.
