I was just reading this interview, and what the ****? Are they serious with this shit? Do they realize how much of Thor's history they're ****ing with here? Christ.

If I understood correctly, they're making Thor and Donald separate entities, and Thor's banishment started when Donald Blake tapped the cane. Do these people not know how to ****ing read? Thor IS BLAKE. They're the same being. They've essentially removed Odin's entire master plan of sending him to Earth which would revolve around teaching him humility. He was supposed to lead life as a cripple, overcoming his difficulties and help people. They've turned Thor into an angry and bitter god, that's pissed because Odin banished him to Earth.

**** you JMS. This started with you when you decided to make Blake a completely separate entity from Thor.

And lol at Blake being a globe traveler with something to prove. If I was Stan, I'd punch this ****** in the face.

Honestly, what the **** is this shit:

"The difference is that this Thor is a very, very, very angry Thor. When he awakens for the first time when Donald Blake taps the stick, Thor is literally, in his mind, just one second removed from when Odin banished him from Asgard in disgrace. And he's not a humble god humbly accepting his punishment. He is infuriated that his father would dare treat him in this fashion," he said. "So, over the course of these five issues, where the series is chronicling the first year of Thor on Earth, we were always told he was banished to Earth to learn humility. Well, he's not learning humility in issue #1. We are introducing the Thor that was required to be banished to learn humility. So, he's angry, he's arrogant and you should learn by the end of issue #1 where the wisdom was in tying him to Dr. Donald Blake."'

That's like writing an origin story for Superman where he lands in Gotham.

This crap better not be cannon.

/rant

Let's see if the story is any good, in principle "year one" stories are annoying but they can take the characters in new directions, and whatever works to make a mythos deeper should be taken into consideration.

Then it will be ignored by a Geoffs like entity.

I'll probably check it out. It's clear to me the creative team does seem to hold some genuine respect and admiration for the character, and if they want to revamp his origin, so long as it's well written I'll support it.

I am going to buy it for sure. I don't want to be mad, and the guys here seem to be really trying, but I'm still a bit pissed off.

It being well written can't overcome the fact that they're skewering a very major part in Thor's history. Imagine how fans would react if DC suddenly decided to put out a comic that said Clark landed in ****ing Russia (I know. Elsewords.). The conflicting histories of Asgard and Ragnarok cycles are bad enough, now add this into the mix, and Thor's past will be as bad as some of the shit going on in DC.

You'd think with the moving coming out, they'd try and make shit more clearer....

I don't want Thor's origin to be so convulted, that in every few years writers put out a definitive Thor origin tale like they do with Superman.

I hate retcons.

Yeah, but keep in mind that redefining characters helps Marvel sell books and adapting their stories to other media. The idea of background story has changed a lot because of the changes in current comic storytelling.

Marvel can go **** with Ultimate Thor or make a story about some previous incarnation of Thor like the other title is doing. I will wait until I read at least one issue before giving something resembling my final judgment, but from what I gather, they will be really ****ing with Thor's origin, Blake's personality etc. They're essentially making a half assed retcon. It would make a great deal of Thor's history confusing. I'll wait until I read it, but I don't hold much hope for it even making sense.

What possible reason could they have for skewering Thor's history so much? If this shit isn't cannon, I'm down.

Anyways like I said, I'll wait until I finish reading it, but I don't hold much hope.

I don't know why they're doing this. Isn't that what those series of one shots by Matt Fraction did? Redefined the circumstances of his banishment?

What one shots? You mean Man of War etc. which ended in Odin banishing Thor into the body of a mortal? That was a previous Ragnarok cycle as I believe. Not the Thor we know.

I'm glad Thor beat Cho soundly

As I understand it, Thor's most powerful offensive tactic is the Godblast.

What is his most powerful defensive tactic? Would it be a forcefield, or when he spins Mjolnir? And what did he use this tactic to defend himself against?

against energy attacks I'd say Mjolnir's energy drain capacity is the best option as it has shown no actual limit. overall I don't really know... he was able to form force fields before though...

When he spins mjolnir, he can create an impenetrable cocoon around him. He did that once to have a conversation with his father and hold off the Hulk.

I'd say he has two main methods of defense.

1) Creating a barrier/forcefield etc. around him or something he wants to protect. They've never been breached as far as I knowl. His used this tactic to hold of the Hulk, to block Infinity's power (A part of Odin that was a Universal threat.), to protect himself and others from the remains of an exploding Planetoid, to contain the Life Bomb which would have annihilated 1/5th of the Universe etc.

2) The second method would be spinning Mjolnir infront of him to protect himself from attacks. This method has stopped everything from bullets to blasts from Odin and Gungnir.

You could probably throw in energy absorption as a defensive tactic as well.

The godblast appeared late, I think. First saw him use it against Juggernaut during the DeFalco/Frenz late 1980's years. It didn't kill Juggs, but did push him back.

The God Blast first appeared in Thor #161. Thor used it to defeat Galactus.

Any of gentlemen recall issue of Thor barrier holding off Hulk?
