Is it a fad in Britain to hate Americans?

But you agreed with me, did you not? Musical opinion and taste are all subjective. If you do not like something then it is usually on the pretense that it does not suit our taste. If something suits my taste, then it is good, if something does not, then it's bad. Something that suits my taste is better than something that does not, yes?
You're missing the qualifiers to ensure the statement isn't condesending:

"For me."

"Something that suits my taste is better for me."

By neglecting that you leave it as a general rather than the specific.

Nobody's OPINION is better or worse than any other person's OPINION.

That is the nature of them being opinions.

Yes, wait indeed. While you may intend to attack me personally for whatever reasons you can fathom, you can only conclude that the rest of my fabled countrymen are the same.
Putting words in my mouth there, laddyboy. I will point out once again I was commenting on you two specifically. Since The Grey Fox has not continued to defend his mistake it will remain with you. YOU are condecending again. Do you take some sort of offense from being called a Brit? Is it dirty or shameful to be called a Brit?

If not then why do you take offense to me calling you a Brit?

Oh, of course, there's obviously a very neat excuse you have planned, but save it for the parade. You and your "sense of humour" have proven yourself prolificly drab, not to mention contradictory.

You condecend like a fish swims don't you? Its your primary nature isn't it? In case your cabbage of a brian doesn't pick up, I understand the words you're using. Its fine if you don't find the same things funny as I do, but you just can't seem to keep yourself from insulting other peoples tastes. Insulting other peoples opinions in the manner you do is condesending.

Thinking yourself better because you have better tastes is exactly taking ion an air of superiority. Because obviously you're so much better than Violent2dope because you have better taste in music and so much better than Crass little me with my drab sense of humor.

And that is exaclty your problem is that you don't see it.

Am I being patronising? I don't believe I am. I acknowledged his opinion, even if I disagreed with it. I value it. However, naturally as any honest person can tell you, I hold my opinion because it best fits the parameters of my taste.

Now, are you being patronising, condescending in any way? I believe that "laddyboy" particuarly expresses your condescending attitude towards me.

If you were particuarlising, even the dampest spanner in the draw would use the specifics. Why not mention our names? Or would that be detrimental to these lovely breed of comedy you have invented for yer fair self.

Ahh, so no we get down to it, eh? All manner of fish and root vegetables are thrown around in this mezra of teen angst. It's fine that you have a different taste in humour, but I'd be much gladder if you were able to admit that your taste is "better", simply because it suits your intellectual appetite better. Perhaps satire is a black sheep among the genre's these days, but "insulting" other's opinions in a smug manner has kept people happy for centuries and will for centuries to come. It is not a matter of being condescending. It is a matter of taking things at a pinch of salt.

Thinking yourself better because you have better tastes is exactly taking ion an air of superiority.

And since when did I say I was better? I would never be so bold. For this is surely the reason why you've chosen to "amuse" yourself. I have no quarrel admitting that my opinion is, for lack of a better word, "better" than anothers, although I am completely open for another to do the same to me. That is only fair and true to the nature of an opinion. You seem to have a problem with it, and you've developed a lovely little problem with your's truly; you can have your opinion, but being as condescending as you pronounce me to be, can't I just ignore you?

And that is exaclty your problem is that you don't see it.

I am well aware that people use the internet as a soap box, some perfectly normal, others with a detrimental napolean complex, but you might just have to get used to the fact that the internet is also a place to ridicule and satirise opinion, fact and thought. If you know this, then why the scene? You hand out hefty doses of condescending yourself, your well ahead of me.

Cause what's easier to type out "Brits" cause that is indeed what you both happened to be or "The grey fox and Exanda kane"?

What's obvious to those with half the brain to pick up on it is I was specfically refering to you two. The fact that you were both in london made it easier to make a joke off of the stereotype. The fact that you then decided to defend it made you a prime target for it applying to you in a true fashion.

Are you just throwing that out at random like I'm randomly hurling insults at you, or are you daft enough to think that there is any teen angst here? I really think your daft enough to believe what you're saying since you're daft enough to not pick up on the sarky comments. So I'll explain how yer wrong on both parts of "teen" and "angst". First off I'd have to be a teenager for the teen part to qualify. I'm 24. Secondly I'd have to feel angsty in order for the angst part to apply. I'm larffing me arse off at ye.

If'n yer gonna choose random insults to hurl, best be makin' sure they fit. Unless that was the satirical part of yer humor, but thus farI've sensed nothin' but contempt from ye.

Aye, that'n ye would. It'd make me a right hypocrite now wouldn' it?

Oh so that's yer angle then is it? Ye be thinkin its funny to be condesendin, but refuse to admit that it IS condesending.

Course not, ye'd be alot more subtle about it.

Appearently not. Cause here we are with yer constantly responding to me posts. Calling ones opinion better than anothers is that very condecention I been talkin about. The fact that you don't use the modifier to specify that its better for you in specific rather than in general. After all what was it ye said earlier?

"If you were particuarlising, even the dampest spanner in the draw would use the specifics."

Funny that.

Only where its deserved, mate. Ye'll notice I didn't persue The Grey Fox. Even with his inclusion at the start of this debacle. Only you, cause ye asked fer it.

I've missed out the chunky retorts you made for fear of cringing.

I admit to ridiculing others opinions, but only as an equal, not in a condescending way. Did I not say that I am open to criticism?

I still find it amazing that you don't see how saying that your opinion is better is condecending.

And if you were so open to criticism why'd you get so defensive?

Simply put, I wanted to know how you found me condescending. I don't see it as condescending because music is such a subjective thing, almost unexplicable. Opinion is not goverened by clearly defined parameters, and as they say each to his own; how can you label something in a negative* light while it is completely subjective?

If I was to move onto topics that are less founded upon opinion, say history or politics, I would be blatnatly condescending for saying "My opinion is better than yours", as well as probably incorrect.

*EDIT: Negative is not the word I am looking for. Condescending, arguably, is more a character trait than an example of an opinion, almost a objective description.

If something can't be portrayed as negative how can it be portrayed as positive? By saying that your opinion is better you're saying that another person's opinion is not as good. Saying that someone's opinion is "not as good" is portraying it negatively.

While your opinion might be etter FOR YOU. it is not better in general.

All opinions are subjective. that's what makes the opinions. and when something is subjective then one isn't better than another. They just are.

But of course, which means that we are not dealing in facts here, where something in particular is better for all, but simply for ourselves. If opinions are completely subjective then why can we not speak of them subjectively? After all, if we speak of our opinions in an objective way, then are we not betraying the very merits an opinion gives?

Yes, exactly. We've hit the jackpot. Our opinions exist, so why not express the reason we stick to these opinions? We stick to these opinions because we believe they are correct, they suit us better than anything else, so why not just come out and say it? Why the hesistation?

Because I'm not going to say that my opinion is better. It isn't. Neither my opinion nor your opinion is better. By saying that it is would be to assume an air of superiority.

How can you say what something is when by definition it cannot be?

an opinion CAN'T be better, based on the very definition of what an opinion IS.

Don't you get it?

Saying your opinion is better is really rather half-arsed.

Obviously, a person would feel that one's opinion is best for them. Saying that your opinion is best for you is rather redundant. but that's the full sentiment behind it being better in the first place. is the very subjectiveness of "for you" or "for me".

no, it's the words of a Jedi master. and the fact that Debbiejo is smaller than her opponent.

lets put a new spin on this.....do Brits hate Americans who move to England and become English citizens?

Brits hate everything.😄
